Week 3 of the season is here as the non-region portion of the schedule is beginning to wind down. A few teams got their first win of the season on Friday night and are looking to build on what they've done against some tough competition this week. And other teams are trying to maintain what they are doing well and continue to improve.

Here's a look at five matchups taking place around the Catawba River Region that will draw some interest:

YORK (1-2) AT CLOVER (2-1)

Last meeting: Clover won 37-6

Players To Watch: YORK – [player_tooltip player_id='1592333' first='Tayshon' last='Freeman'] (QB), [player_tooltip player_id='1819637' first='Tacarean' last='Douglas'] (RB), [player_tooltip player_id='1822266' first='Caleb' last='Sanders'] (WR), Karter Farris (WR), [player_tooltip player_id='1816758' first='Kyreek' last='Love'] (LB), [player_tooltip player_id='1822258' first='Noah' last='Morrison'] (DL); CLOVER – [player_tooltip player_id='1776870' first='Brody' last='Woolbright'] (QB), [player_tooltip player_id='1407416' first='Aaron' last='Shealey'] (QB), [player_tooltip player_id='1824427' first='Grady' last='Stone'] (RB), [player_tooltip player_id='1823061' first='Justin' last='Haywood'] (WR), [player_tooltip player_id='1404968' first='Jackson' last='Hill'] (LB), [player_tooltip player_id='1743683' first='Carson' last='Pinti'] (LB), [player_tooltip player_id='1734584' first='Brandon' last='Smith'] (DB)

Notable: The oldest rivalry in the state adds another chapter in northwestern York County on Friday night. Both teams are coming off wins in the closing seconds – York against Union County and Clover against Palisades in Charlotte. Can Clover line up and run the ball against a York defense that grew up in the second half last week? Can York get the quick passing game going against a Clover defense that is active and will move all over the place.

LEWISVILLE (2-1) AT FAIRFIELD CENTRAL (2-1)

Last meeting: Fairfield Central won 33-8

Players To Watch: LEW – [player_tooltip player_id='1267330' first='Jacorreun' last='Howze'] (ATH), [player_tooltip player_id='1165159' first='Jordan' last='Strong'] (ATH), [player_tooltip player_id='616374' first='Mikel' last='Hutchins'] (WR), [player_tooltip player_id='1822769' first='Jalen' last='Culp'] (WR), [player_tooltip player_id='1189263' first='Jasiah' last='Dorsey'] (WR); FC – Kaiden Diggs (QB), [player_tooltip player_id='1351189' first='Dre' last='Walker'] (WR), [player_tooltip player_id='1816746' first='Kenyan' last='Douglas'] (RB), [player_tooltip player_id='1816207' first='Joey' last='Jamison'] (LB), Jaylin Culp (DB), [player_tooltip player_id='1820346' first='Chantz' last='Hemphill'] (LB)

Notable: After taking losses to open the season, both teams are starting to find their footing as the non-region schedule begins to wind down. We expect the Lions to spread the ball around between Howze (pictured above), Strong and Hutchins throughout the contest and they'll want to be physical and run the football. The play of the Griffins linebackers will be vital and whichever defense can slow the opposing run game down may win this one.

WEST STANLY (NC) (1-2) AT CENTRAL PAGELAND (2-0)

Players To Watch: WS – Zayden Thomas (WR), Dominik Danzy (WR), Carter Yow (LB), Kaleb Cullingford (DL); CENT – Jakari Holloman (LB/RB), [player_tooltip player_id='1639753' first='Aiden' last='Short'] (RB), [player_tooltip player_id='1664364' first='Dwayne' last='Louallen'] (QB), [player_tooltip player_id='1592629' first='Taveon' last='Moore'] (CB/WR)

Notable: The Colts will make the hour drive down to Pageland for an interesting cross state battle. Danzy is averaging 76 rushing yards per game and has three touchdowns on the year. He's someone that the Central Pageland will need to be aware of – Holloman had six tackles and one forced fumble last week in the 55-20 win over Lamar last week. Yow is averaging 9.3 tackles per game, and he had an impact in the Colts' 42-7 win over Albemarle last week and he'll look to disrupt things against Louallen, who had a near perfect game, going 10-of-14 for 153 yards and three touchdowns.

LANCASTER (0-3) AT FORT MILL (3-0)

Last meeting: Lancaster won 32-27

Players To Watch: LANC – [player_tooltip player_id='1823856' first='Zy'Quarious' last='Clinton'] (QB); FM – [player_tooltip player_id='1149056' first='Quinn' last='Kelly'] (QB), [player_tooltip player_id='1266099' first='Broden' last='Mitcheson'] (RB), [player_tooltip player_id='1820448' first='Andrew' last='Kowalski'] (RB), [player_tooltip player_id='1394975' first='Joseph' last='Duey'] (LB), [player_tooltip player_id='1820446' first='Jameson' last='Terrell'] (WR), [player_tooltip player_id='1823018' first='Brett' last='Scales'] (LB), [player_tooltip player_id='1267211' first='Gray' last='Patterson'] (LB)

Notable: Fort Mill has been the surprise team in the Catawba River Region so far as they are undefeated, as they routed Blythewood on the road 33-7. The Yellow Jackets have done their damage offensively on the ground, as Kowalski found the end zone twice and Mitcheson ran it in. Lancaster will be aware of the Yellow Jackets's desire to run the football. And Fort Mill will try to stop the Bruins from running it as well.

SOUTH POINTE (2-1) AT NORTHWESTERN (3-0)

Last meeting: Northwestern won 28-14

Players To Watch: SP – [player_tooltip player_id='1819627' first='J'Zavien' last='Currence'] (ATH), [player_tooltip player_id='284136' first='Miles' last='Wilson'] (DL), [player_tooltip player_id='1591712' first='Seth' last='Tillman'] (DL),[player_tooltip player_id='513067' first='Malik' last='Ratliff'] (WR), [player_tooltip player_id='1165128' first='RJ' last='Brown'] (RB); NW – [player_tooltip player_id='232624' first='Xavier' last='Means'] (QB), [player_tooltip player_id='1820783' first='Quay' last='Mobley'] (RB), [player_tooltip player_id='1267334' first='Kameron' last='Vance'] (WR), [player_tooltip player_id='1820778' first='Jeremiah' last='Cannon'] (DL)

Notable: Northwestern has been navigating the first three weeks of the season with relative ease, outside of the game against Ridge View, and last week was the second straight week that Vance took back a kickoff return, this week in a 55-35 win over South Florence. Means ran for 147 yards and threw for 250, for a total of five touchdowns. South Pointe's defense was key in their overtime win over West Charlotte last week. The biggest change for the Stallions will be at the quarterback position as [player_tooltip player_id='473002' first='Cameron' last='McMillon'] has transferred from the Stallions to Kennan, which means Currence takes over at the quarterback position.
