It was another outstanding week of high school football action as I stopped by Brentwood Academy for a non-district showdown between the Eagles and the Tigers of Ensworth High School. Following the action, here's my full game recap as well as my top performers.

In the first place spot on my list is [player_tooltip player_id='378855' first='Kesean' last='Bowman'], a wide receiver at Brentwood Academy. Bowman was a crucial piece of the Eagles' offense, hauling in a number of significant passes, including one beautiful touchdown catch. I also liked Bowman's explosiveness after the catch as he consistently juked out defenders with his strong footwork, escaped tackles with ease, and made an effort to fight for extra yards after the catch.

I was additionally impressed with [player_tooltip player_id='834810' first='Crews' last='Jenkins'], a quarterback at Brentwood Academy. Jenkins was locked in at the helm of the Eagles' offense, throwing a number of quality passes throughout the contest. What made Jenkins so reliable under center was his ability to make plays in third-down situations. I also liked how Jenkins could scan the backfield and hit his receivers in stride.

Claiming the number three spot on my list is [player_tooltip player_id='1305812' first='Bishop' last='Starling'], an athlete at Ensworth High School. Starling stood out for the Tigers on both sides of the ball. Offensively, Starling impressed me on Ensworth's first drive, creating seperation in the backfield to haul in the touchdown pass. Defensively, I liked how Starling was being physical and aggressive in the backfield as he locked down receivers during the second half of play.

Another skilled prospect to make his presence known was [player_tooltip player_id='723428' first='Larry' last='Sanders II'], a running back at Brentwood Academy. Sanders was unstoppable for the Eagles on the ground, blasting into the endzone for three touchdowns on the night. On top of his electric speed and ability to easily pick up the first down, Sanders was really hard to bring down as he could use his size and strength to absorb contact and slip past defenders.

Coming in at number five on my list is [player_tooltip player_id='953907' first='Ashton' last='Moore'], an athlete at Ensworth High School. Moore impressed me defensively in the second half of the game, proving his ability to read the offense like a book and get in prime position to haul in the interception. Moore should be worth keeping an eye on as Ensworth's season continues.

Game Recap

Ensworth would strike first on their opening drive as [player_tooltip player_id='1153810' first='Taylor' last='Hasselbeck'] connected with [player_tooltip player_id='1305812' first='Bishop' last='Starling'] for the impressive touchdown pass. The Tigers took an early 7-0 lead over the Eagles with 8:51 remaining in the first quarter. Brentwood Academy's offense didn't waste any time on their first drive either as [player_tooltip player_id='723428' first='Larry' last='Sanders II'] punched into the endzone for the touchdown to tie things up 7-7 with 6:26 left in the first quarter. Brentwood Academy's offense was just getting started as Sanders would find his way back into the house for his second score of the night with just a few seconds left in the first quarter. The Eagles had a 14-7 lead over the Tigers heading into the second quarter. Brentwood Academy would extend their lead with 1:30 left in the first half as [player_tooltip player_id='834810' first='Crews' last='Jenkins'] launched a beautiful touchdown pass to [player_tooltip player_id='378855' first='Kesean' last='Bowman'] to put the Eagles up 24-7 on Ensworth. Before the end of the first half, the Eagles added another seven to the scoreboard as Sanders raced into the endzone for his third touchdown of the night. Brentwood Academy held a 31-7 lead over Ensworth at halftime. Neither team would score a touchdown in the second half of the contest as both defensive units locked in. The Eagles managed to extend their lead with two field goals. There were two key defensive players to show out in the second half. With a few seconds left in the third quarter, a pass from Jenkins was picked off by [player_tooltip player_id='953907' first='Ashton' last='Moore'] to give Ensworth's offense the ball back. With 3:35 remaining in the fourth quarter, Hollis Watson elevated off the ground to pick off Hasselbeck and close things out for Brentwood Academy. The Eagles went on to defeat Ensworth 37-7 and stay undefeated on the season.
