10 Games To Keep An On In Week 6
In this article:
As we are now at Week 6, district games and key matchups are taking place throughout the state that will certainly grab the spotlight.
With local, regional and statewide contests taking place, many Top 30 programs are starting to play games that will have a huge impact on the post season. Playoff slotting will not be at stake every week until the end of the year.
Because Prep Redzone Florida is fortunate to have watched many teams and players over the past nine months, leading up to the season, we have an insight into many of these games that are now taking place. Many of these teams are the ones we watched at 7-on-7 events, during the spring and into the summer.
Each Friday, we take a look at 10 games that have interest to fans and those who follow high school football across Florida. Check out this week's matchups:
Check these 10 matchups out:
No. 1 Bradenton IMG Academy (4-0) at Phenix City, Alabama (5-0). The Ascenders hit the road for a nationally televised contest that will pit two powers. The Red Devils have already beaten Orlando The First Academy (38-35) the only common opponent. IMG Academy easily beat the Royals in the kickoff classic.
DeLand (5-0) at Port Orange Spruce Creek (5-0). It's a good bet that the winner of this titanic contest will win the district and have an upper hand in a Class 7A that may not be as strong as it has in the past. Plenty of talent and great coaching on both sides of the ball.
Hialeah Gardens Mater Academy (5-0) at North Miami (4-1). This Saturday night special was to be a District 16-5A contest that matched two unbeaten teams, but the Pioneers slipped up last week. Not too many better football coaches than Tim “Ice” Harris who has turned the Lions into a state power in his first season at the school.
Lake City Columbia (5-0) at No. 13 Saint Augustine (5-0). This is the game of the week – with two 4A powers facing off in a key district game. Both teams are well coached and loaded with talent. This is going to be a fun game to watch. Each of these teams have a chance to go very deep in the state playoffs.
Merritt Island (3-2) at Jacksonville Ed White (4-0). Don't look now but the Commanders are off to an amazing start and have a legitimate chance to make plenty of noise in a very competitive Class 4A this season. But at the other of this week's matchup may be one of the best kept secrets in Class 3A. The Mustangs' two losses have come in overtime to three-time defending state champion Cocoa and 57-51 to unbeaten 7A program Deland. This is going to be a really interesting game!
Milton (5-0) at Lynn Haven Mosley (4-1). At the start of the season this was just another hurdle for the Dolphins as they looked toward a District 12-5A championship game with power Niceville. But the Panthers have thrown a wrench into those plans with the best start in decades. What was once viewed as an automatic win could be one of the Panhandle's best contests.
No. 24 Ponte Vedra Nease (4-1) at No. 25 Gainesville Buchholz (4-1). Yet another interesting matchup that will have two Top 30 programs trying to get the upper hand in district play at the 6A level. A tremendous Week 6 showdown that will attract plenty of fans.
Tampa Carrollwood Day (3-0) at Lakeland Christian (4-1). After an opening night loss to Fort Lauderdale NSU University School, the Vikings have put it into gear and rolled over the last four opponents and will face off against a Patriots team that has only played three times but come into this 7-1A district contest ready for the challenge having shutout their last two opponents.
Trenton (4-0) at Chiefland (4-1). Despite losing to Baker County earlier in the season, the Indians will be ready for this important Rural game between two programs who have made a major statement so far. This is Trenton's best start in many years.
No. 16 Vero Beach (4-0) at Fort Pierce Central (4-0). On the surface the Indians have a huge advantage, playing a very challenging schedule, but you must give the Cobras their respect after outscoring their first four opponents, 181-31. Vero Beach has long dominated this region and has their best chance to perhaps reach the state finals.
