CHERAW | Friday night lights are back in full swing with teams all around the state playing their Week 0 games. Out at Chesterfield High School, it was the Johnsonville Flashes traveling to take on the Chesterfield Rams.

The two teams met last season and the result on Friday was much different than the one of last season. [player_tooltip player_id='1664624' first='Ja'Mere' last='Ross'] [player_tooltip player_id='1824664' first='Takhari' last='Ross'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1304767' first='Larkin' last='Powell'] made sure Johnsonville came away with a 34-20 win.

[player_tooltip player_id='1664624' first='Ja'Mere' last='Ross'] (pictured above), finished the game with 96 all-purpose yards and two touchdowns. He had both a 47-yard rushing and 47-yard receiving touchdown on back-to-back drives. He credited both his coaching staff and himself for being able to make the plays.

"Coach knows to get me the ball in space," he said. "I believe in myself when I have the ball in my hands, and I was able to make some good plays happen when I got it. Shoutout to the guys for blocking it up on the run and shoutout to Larkin for the good ball on the receiving one."

Johnsonville's scoring got started with a two-yard rush from [player_tooltip player_id='1822707' first='Zaghe' last='Davis'] and they never looked back. Davis finished the night with 70 rushing yards and a touchdown on 13 games. They got scores from both of the Ross brothers, as well as a 74-yard rushing touchdown from Rondrell Livingston and 25-yard receiving touchdown from [player_tooltip player_id='1822708' first='Skylar' last='Montgomery'].

Chesterfield tried multiple times to scratch and claw its way back into the game with a gutsy effort from quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1821336' first='Bryce' last='Adams']. He threw 32 times for 256 yards and two touchdowns, as well as adding 26 rushing yards on nine attempts.

Other Johnsonville Standouts

[player_tooltip player_id='1820195' first='Bricen' last='Howell'] LB, 2026 - Howell was flying around the field all night long. He made several huge hits, one of which forced a fumble that he was able to fall on. He undoubtedly looked like the best defensive player on the field throughout the entire game.

[player_tooltip player_id='1824805' first='Shawn' last='Wilson'] RB, 2027 - Wilson collected two carries for 17 yards and also made an impact on defense. He had several open field tackles and had a huge third down sack in the early part of the game to get his defense off the field.

[player_tooltip player_id='1824664' first='Takhari' last='Ross'] ATH, 2026 - We mentioned Ross above, but didn't really dive into his evening. He had two catches for 25 yards at receiver and that wasn't his best work. He collected two interceptions on defense, both coming during long Chesterfield drives that could've ended in touchdowns.

[player_tooltip player_id='1822705' first='Dylan' last='Smith'] LB, 2026 - Just like Ross, Smith also collected two interceptions, the second of which sealed the game and ended any chance of a Chesterfield comeback. The joy and excitement from his teammates after both interceptions showed how much they respect him and think of him as a leader.

Other Chesterfield Standouts

[player_tooltip player_id='1771835' first='Caleb' last='Johnson'] RB, 2027 - Johnson took a beating out of the backfield but was still able to collect 55 rushing yards on 13 carries as well as one catch for five yards. He is a true downhill, power running back and he is nearly impossible to individually bring down.

[player_tooltip player_id='1629002' first='Sincere' last='Hubbard'] LB/TE, 2026 - Hubbard is a standout player on the defensive side of the ball and he was in on several tackles for loss. Offensively he hauled in four catches for 29 yards.

[player_tooltip player_id='1817676' first='Holden' last='Lowery'] TE, 2028 - Lowery saw a lot of playing time in the latter half of the game and he made it count. He finished with a team high six catches for 46 yards.

Greg Rushing RB, 2029 - Rushing also played in the latter half of the game and he very well may have earned himself quite a bit of playing time in the future. He had seven carries for 26 yards and a touchdown, as well as two catches for 42 yards and a receiving touchdown.

Jayden Wallace LB/DE, 2026 - While not much stood out on defense for Chesterfield, Wallace was someone that did. He was in the backfield frequently and made what felt like nearly every tackle while he was on the field. He is certainly a player that can flip a game on its head in quite an instant.
