He is explosive and has breakaway speed, Stevens is a the prize of this school with over 10 Power 4 offers. The top ranked running back in the 2027 class, Stevens may have his commitment wrapped up by seasons end. There is a a ton of it in both the 27 and 28 classes. Lineman [player_tooltip player_id='1751543' first='Nathan' last='Waino'] is a good example, as he has a chance to be a dominate in his junior campaign. He is 6'2 and 246 lbs., looks to still be growing with his long reach. He played a lot as a sophomore and and is 6'2 175 lbs. already. Sonkwa has some next level potential, a lot more muscle on his frame too, he also looks athletic enough to play guard or tackle. A soon to be sophomore Nemec will navigate the middle of the Wolfpack defense in 2025. He has good size and speed, expect to see John Paul's defensive unit to be much improved. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- /wp:acf/evaluation-block --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>New Defensive Coordinator shares his thoughts on the off-season and expectations:</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><em>John Paul made a big commitment to building the football program and changing the culture of the team in all aspects from bringing in new coaches especially on the defensive side of the ball. We had some new student athletes transfer in that bring more leadership and experience at some key positions. We completely revamped our off-season training program (Iron Wolves) which is led by former University of Maryland Linebacker Richard Benjamin. Our Student-Athletes were on an offseason program that mirrors college programs which led to tremendous strength gains (some of our guys added more than 100lbs to some of their lifts). The feel around the team is different and has been very high energy with the players buying in daily to the foundation being built and learning what it takes to compete and win! I believe we have made great strides which will translate and show on Friday nights when we take the field. I'm new to the John Paul football family and the thing I've told the team is that I didn't come here to lose and that I go into every season expecting to go undefeated, having the mindset of “oh we might not win this one” before ever stepping on the field and playing the game is a losing mindset that we don't encourage. Our players have bought into that mindset and are eager to prove it.
