Oviedo Lions Are Ready For The Next Step

In this article:
Coach Greg Odierno has been around long enough to understand that football is a marathon and not a sprint.
When his Oviedo Lions beat 7A state runner up Lake Mary in a kickoff classic last week, it was a great win for the players and coaches, but the only thing that matters is what happens over the 11 weeks.
Starting with Friday's opener on the road at Orlando Bishop Moore, the Lions will take each game one at a time – and like last year's 8-3 season, making the playoffs and winning the district are what this program works year-round to achieve.
While this week's opener is huge and the only thing that anyone associated with the team will talk about, Orlando Evans, Apopka Wekiva and Winter Park Lake Howell are the games that will be huge as this team looks to win another district title.
Since taking over the program back during the 2021-22 season, Odierno and the Lions have posted an impressive 32-12 record, and with a number of key returnees, this team can take things one step further than last year's first round loss to the Pace Patriots.

KEEP AN EYE ON THIS TEAM IN 2025
As this team gets ready for the 2025 season, there are several players who figure to step up and make an impact. Here are a few of those talented prospects:
2026 – Samari Chisolm, DB/Athlete, 5'9, 175. Easily one of the most versatile and talented members of the secondary, who had five sacks, 11 tackles for loss, 55 total takles and stepped up with two kickoff returns for touchdowns.
2027 – [player_tooltip player_id='499514' first='Jordan' last='Donahoo'], WR, 6'4, 185 – 4.3 GPA. Here is a two-sport (basketball) athlete that is one of the faces of the future, and of course the present. Had 700 yards and scored six touchdowns during his sophomore season.
2026 – Brock Joyce, RB, 6'2, 190 – 3.3 GPA. This gifted Navy commitment came up huge during a district championship season with 13 touchdowns on the ground giving this offense a healthy balance.
2027 – Carmari Solomon, WR/DB, 5'10, 155 – 3.5 GPA. While he plays on both sides of the ball and is indeed a catalyst, he scored five non-offensive touchdowns last season. On offense, he had nine receptions for 123 yards and two touchdowns. Defensively, he finished with 28 Tackles. Special Teams: Nine punt returns for 159 yards and 282 total yards.
2026 - Micah Thorpe, OL, 6'1, 250 – 3.6 GPA. This versatile line (center/guard) prospect who is already a three-year starter that was responsible for opening holes and providing pass protection. Is also a versatile athlete that qualified for the state wrestling tournament. He is strong and agile.
