The 2025 high school football season is less than a month away — during which time Prep Redzone Louisiana is in the process of releasing rankings updates for the 2026, 2027 and 2028 recruiting classes and the first watch list for the incoming 2029 class.

A new 185-man list for the 2027 cycle hits the site this week. And, along with the update, we will count down the top 50 prospects in greater detail, including many familiar faces but also a few new additions.

Here's a look at Nos. 50-41.

No. 50 — [player_tooltip player_id='1250286' first='Braylen' last='Taylor'] — 5-9, 170 WR — Amite

The speedy pass-catcher had a breakout sophomore campaign as already one of the Warriors' most productive weapons, and he should only be just starting to scratch the surface as he continues to develop his confidence, consistency and physicality — including entering this season listed about 20 pounds stronger than a year ago. With his ability to rack up explosive plays in a variety of ways, Taylor should be among Louisiana's loaded class of junior receivers to put up big numbers this fall.

No. 49 — [player_tooltip player_id='1782943' first='Kyron' last='Turner'] — 6-4, 185 DB — Haughton

One of the highest-ranking debuts in the new 2027 update, the Buccaneers' safety is a long, twitchy athlete who does isn't shy about playing physically, whether for jarring pass breakups or crashing down against the run. Turner has shown off some of his athleticism with 6-foot-6-inch and 19-foot-10-inch high and long jumps, respectively, this spring track season and a 34.4-inch and 10-foot-4-inch vertical and broad jumps, respectively, at LSU camp this summer.

No. 48 — [player_tooltip player_id='489183' first='Parker' last='Robinson'] — 6-2, 200 QB — Neville

The first of a pair of quarterbacks in this range, the Tigers' signal-caller picked up his first two college offers this spring from Campbell and hometown ULM and is firmly on the radar of a slew of Power-Four programs around the region. The multisport standout, who also excels on the basketball court, fits right in with Louisiana's loaded class of junior quarterbacks with his quick release, touch downfield and the athleticism to roll out and extend plays when necessary.

No. 47 — [player_tooltip player_id='465348' first='Devyn' last='Downs'] — 6-2, 195 WR/DB — Sterlington

The lone prospect on Louisiana's 2027 rankings with a commitment listed, Downs has already locked in plans to play baseball for reigning national champion LSU and is a promising athlete on the football field as well as a thickly built two-way standout who has run 40-yard dashes in the 4.5-second range, possesses good ball skills and plays with good physicality whether fighting through contact on offense or initiating it as on defense.

No. 46 — [player_tooltip player_id='1250291' first='Alex' last='Fontenot'] — 6-2, 180 WR — Alexandria

Fontenot is one of the biggest risers in this round of 2027 rankings updates after a strong offseason on the college camp circuit. The Trojans' receiver has measured in between 6-foot-1 and 6-foot-2 with a 4.55-second 40-yard dash, including a good release that has stood out on the football and 7-on-7 fields. Fontenot was a key contributor on a historic Alexandria team, has started to check a lot of boxes for interested programs such as Louisiana (Lafayette) and UNLV and should be poised for a big junior campaign this season as his team's top returning weapon.

No. 45 — [player_tooltip player_id='1356161' first='Jermond' last='Macklin'] — 6-0, 185 RB — Edna Karr

Another of the big climbers of this summer's update, Macklin flashed this spring as a breakout candidate to watch this year for a new-look, but still-potent Edna Karr offense. The rising junior running back has good size for the next level, a solid build some burst he used to gash his way upfield for a few big gains in the May scrimmage to wrap up the school year. Macklin is a notable prospect on the rise, and if some of those flashes translate to consistent production this fall, this ranking may still prove too low.

No. 44 — [player_tooltip player_id='1356118' first='Asher' last='Carter'] — 6-3, 180 WR — Zachary

The big, physical receiver hit the Prep Redzone Louisiana radar last summer during 7-on-7 action and added limited, but intriguing junior varsity film as a sophomore. This fall should provide a better look at where Carter stands, but he quickly stands out from the eye-test and appears to have the tools to be a Division-I pass-catchers.

No. 43 — [player_tooltip player_id='934563' first='Devin' last='Lavalais'] — 6-1, 165 ATH — Marksville

The versatile, multisport standout racked up a combined 1,300-plus yards as a sophomore with a highlight reel full of a mixture of well-placed passes downfield and explosive runs on which he hits a lane and accelerates by and away from opposing defenses with speed that has already accounted for some of the top 400- and 800-meter times in his school's history.

No. 42 — [player_tooltip player_id='1594309' first='Maison' last='Smith'] — 6-3, 275 DL/OL — University Lab

A few of the title-hopeful Cubs' top athletes on this year's team are versatile trench standouts with two-way potential. And right alongside seniors committed to LSU and Louisiana (Lafayette), Smith is a big, quick interior lineman already starting to garner some Division-I recruiting attention. His highlights thus far have come largely as a disruptive defensive tackle with a good burst off the line and closing in on quarterbacks and ball-carriers, but he was a top performer on both sides of the ball at a Prep Redzone Louisiana showcase this offseason.

No. 41 — [player_tooltip player_id='1250281' first='Karsen' last='Sellers'] — 6-2, 175 QB — Alexandria

The young quarterback's effectiveness in his debut varsity season this past fall was a big piece of the Trojans' first-ever undefeated regular season and run to the Division-I Select title game. Now Sellers heads into junior year with the opportunity to build on a year of high-level experience and confidence and take on an even more focal responsibility following the graduation of a pair of 2025 running backs and the transfer of another 2027 quarterback.
