Central Texas Sophomore Standouts: Offensive Stars

From Austin to San Antonio and everywhere in between, Friday night lights will be back on the gridiron next week. There's plenty of star-studded talent in the junior and senior classes across the region, but the underclassmen deserve their flowers as well. After checking out some of the top veteran talent across Central Texas, let's now dive into the top 2028 prospects, starting with offense.    The first of a pair of Wolf dynamic playmakers, Henderson possesses a large frame and a broad skillset at the wideout position. He thrives at beating man coverage by boxing out and high-pointing the football. Tylan also displays great change of direction and footwork, evident in his route running and after-the-catch ability. He does a good job of breaking down at the top of his routes without wasting movement. Additionally, Henderson plays with a high motor and is a willing blocker. His rare combination of size and speed (4.56 40) will allow Tylan to blossom into an all-around WR at the college level. After nearly 100 yards as a freshman, Henderson is on a list of premier breakout candidates this season. He has already received an offer from Texas Tech.      The delivery end of the Weiss duo is one of the most underrated young QBs in the country, in Schad. While not the largest gunslinger across the nation, Schad plays with poise and comfort in the pocket and through contact. He displays silky smooth mechanics, which he uses to step up in the pocket, change arm angles, and deliver strikes with great touch downfield. Jaxon thrives at darting breadbasket deep ball down the seams of the field. The young signal-caller also possesses sneaky speed and mobility out of the pocket, breaking off several long runs throughout his freshman season. Schad should continue to develop and grow during his sophomore campaign, coming off a season where he threw for nearly 2,700 yards along with 32 touchdowns. Wooten possesses a dynamic combination of size and acceleration. These traits produce a versatile playmaker that can take the top off the defense and reel in deep balls or carry the ball from the backfield, making defenders miss with explosive cuts. He's got elite speed on all levels, along with great pad level and little wasted movement. Tano showed flashes of being an elite offensive weapon as a freshman, and I expect that trend to continue into this season. Wooten should take a massive leap this year and build upon an offer list that already includes Washington and Arizona State.      Another somewhat jack-of-all-trades offensive weapon, LaCombe shifts all over the offense, utilizing his rare abilities in a plethora of ways. With his giant frame, Carson projects to be an elite red-zone target at the next level, boasting great contested catch ability and athleticism. He thrives at putting himself into position, boxing out defensive backs, and high-pointing the ball to bring down completions. LaCombe's body balance control is extremely impressive for such a large frame. Carson's versatile play style allowed him to even line up as a wildcat QB at times as a freshman. Taking his talents over to Pieper, LaCombe should build off a solid 2024 campaign that saw him produce nearly 300 yards and 5 total touchdowns. He has received offers from Utah and UTSA, and you can expect him to break out in 2025.      As big as any lineman, regardless of class in the country, Knight is an absolute monster of a right tackle who plays power and nastiness. Every rep, he tries to win the highest motor and angriest player on the field, always finishing to the whistle with defenders usually ending on the ground. Jai'Storm excels in gap scheme run plays, firing out of his hips and overwhelming every defender with pure power and violent hands. For such a young giant of a lineman, he also gives some raw flashes of great ability to sustain a strong anchor in pass pro. Knight should be penned in as one of the most coveted players in the state of Texas. The Rockets' star tackle has already compiled over 20 offers, from schools such as Texas, Florida, and SMU.
