St. Thomas University’s Banner Weekend

In this article:
MIAMI GARDENS – There is no getting around the fact that the month of June is the busiest when it comes to college camps and recruiting.
Schools across the country open their doors to athletes, high school coaches and families for camps, combines and 7-on-7 events.
With recruiting more competitive than ever before, it has become essential to roll out the red carpet for teams to have an experience that they've never had before.
With schools coming by the busloads, these campus caravans have become part of the start of the summer – and everyone takes advantage of the experience of a lifetime.
With NCAA member schools closing up shop last week, it was time for the smaller programs to take center stage, and perhaps nobody made more of a splash last weekend than St. Thomas University.
What head coach Bill Reichel and his staff did on Saturday and Sunday was start with an orientation for new players who will be coming in later this summer.
After that orientation, it was time for high school football prospects to come to this successful NAIA campus as an offensive/defensive line camp attracted over 250 campers in the blazing sun, who came from as far away as Tallahassee. At the same time, some 14 schools took part in a 7-on-7 event that attracted programs such as Fort Meade (Polk County) and Weston, where Cypress Bay took home the title.
On Sunday, it was time for the special teams and prospect camps, attracting another 300-plus that poured on to campus for three hours of instruction and evaluation.
By the end of the two days, nearly 800 prospects and their families – most coming to the facility for the first time ever – had the chance to add this successful athletic program and educational pillar to the list of schools to consider.
With the prospect camp on Sunday getting plenty of attention, athletes took advantage of the opportunity to perform in front of the college coaches who can make a decision on their future.
