Sights and Sounds: NMMI 7×7 Tourney (Pool Play)

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>ROSWELL</strong> – Nearly 20 varsity teams across three divisions competed Friday in the annual NMMI 7x7 Tournament.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Group A: Alamogordo, Carlsbad, Farmington, Goddard, Hobbs, Lubbock (TX) Estacado, Roswell, St. Michael's, Valley.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Group B: Hot Springs, Loving, Ruidoso, Tohatchi, Tularosa, West Las Vegas.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Group C: Grady (6-Man), Jal, Mesilla Valley Christian, Tatum (8-Man).</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Groups B and C also include numerous JV and freshman teams.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Each varsity team played about four or five games in pool play and were then seeded for the afternoon's bracket play. The feel good story of the day was Ruidoso's presence at NMMI. The town recently experienced catastrophic flooding and at least one Warriors players who competed Friday had their home totally destroyed in the flooding. &nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The tournament offered an opportunity to watch several quarterbacks for the first time, including 6-foot-3, 210-pound <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1750685' first='Luke' last='Lynn']</strong> (Roswell) and 6-foot-3, 215-pound <strong>Griego Sataurus</strong> (Farmington. Both have tremendous size and rocket throwing arms. Lynn is the younger brother of former Coyote DL standout Noah Lynn, who signed with West Texas A&amp;M. Both the Coyotes and Scorpions appear to be in good shape at the QB position.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Another QB who impressed was <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1600835' first='Nathanael' last='Best']</strong> of Alamogordo. He verified his strong showings at multiple camps in June with a strong, accurate arm and good speed when he rolls out to either side. Best is a renowned runner, amassing over 1,100 rushing yards in 2024. He has the potential to join the prestigious 1,000-1,000 club in 2025.
