On Saturday, May 10th, 2025 I was welcomed back for the third year in a row to cover Coach Nick Pennisi‘s PSR Big Camp Series hosted at Monroe High School in Monroe, New Jersey. As I have come to expect, this event was packed with participation, loaded with talent, and ran extremely well.

Different than other events, Pennisi opted to have three different check-in times, based on position groupings. This afforded me the opportunity to get a closer look at many of the prospects in attendance. Below are just some of my notes on the position group mentioned in this article's title.

This article will feature defensive linemen who attended the camp who play for teams outside of New Jersey - specifically New York and Pennsylvania.

A trio of prospects from Canarsie High School in Brooklyn made the trip over the Verazanno and Goethals Bridges to make it out. Bryce Green profiles as an interior prospect and who works his hands well. I caught Green deploying a swipe-to-rip move that won him a rep. On that particular rep, however, he failed to get his hips through. Later on this 2027 graduate got past his man with a cross-job - yet this time he worked his hips around for an easy win. At one moment his arms got jack knifed, but recovered to win the second rep... Jonathan Stephenson might have the best stature of the Canarsie trip at 6'4" 240lbs, profiling as a 'tweener who can likely play either interior or edge at both the high school and collegiate levels. For as great as he looks, the next time I see Stephenson I wish to see more bend to him.

In my opinion, the best of the Brooklyn three - and one of the more outstanding line prospects to compete this day - was [player_tooltip player_id='1302343' first='Chase' last='Hyacinth']. A true edge at 6'4" 215lbs with room to add to his frame, Hyacinth is loaded with promise and upside as he prepares to enter his junior year. I thought that this 2027 graduate was very quick in tight spaces. A competitor of sorts, Hyacinth took the inside rush lane, dipped his shoulder low, and flexed just a bit upon finishing. The very next play when he and that offensive lineman ran it back, Hyacinth used speed-to-power to work his matchup upward only to totally dump him. Not having lost a matchup to that point, I later saw him use the long arm-to-arm over for a dub and later also get home on a twister-like spin & pin.

From a trio of Brooklynites to a duo of prospects who live on Long Island - and never in Long Island, the first one we check in on is Long Island Lutheran's Trevor Benjamin. Benjamin had an outstanding kick step that was light and powerful, all the while keeping his lead foot close to the ground as he dragged it. A bit more bend would aid Benjamin in allowing him to play with improved leverage, though... Chaminade is the home of [player_tooltip player_id='1575806' first='Matthew' last='Arias']. I made a note that at 6'1" 250lbs, Arias might have been the most athletic defensive lineman in attendance. I was impressed with his raw ability to move and the fact that he did have some bend to him.

Taking the trip upstate, making the trek down from East Syracuse was Kahlil Coleman. Although he was a bit more stout than some of his contemporaries (5'9" 230lbs), he did struggle at times. To his credit, however, Coleman was able to adjust and play with better pad level.

Traveling down the New Jersey Turnpike into Pennsylvania, we first take a look at Philadelphia-proper's two top public schools - starting with a prospect from the top school St. Joseph's Prep. Prep sent Ryan Zats to compete. Zats was a strong performer and showed a tremendous deal of refined skills. I first caught him executing a flawless spin and pin, quickly putting himself in the spin cycle, while also delivering a devastating elbow to his matchup's back like a stake to his back... If St. Joseph's is the best known, Roman Catholic is right on their heels. Antwan Smithray, a 6'4" 260lb rising senior, was about as raw of a pure athlete as they come. Smithray showed some twitch in his get off and when he moved too.

Traveling outside of the Philadelphia city limits, Allentown Central's Gavin Albeck showed some silky-smooth moves while competing. Albeck caught his first offensive matchup flat footed with a Eurostep-type move as he took the inside lane. The very next rep, the junior-to-be earned a win by winning the edge and turning the corner... Closing out our defensive line coverage for this camp is Nafiz Bostick of Monsignor Bonner. At 6'2" 240lbs, Bostick moves and bends well, especially given his size. That said, I do wish to see his hips losen up just a bit more. Additionally, finishing ought to be a priority of his, especially when he dips and rips.
