Preseason Review New Braunfels Unicorns

The New Braunfels football program, coming off a solid 9-4 overall record and a 5-2 district finish, is gearing up for the 2025 season under new leadership. Brad Molder was hired as head football coach in February 2024 and also serves as the boys athletic coordinator. Molder brings valuable experience from his time as athletic director and head coach at La Vernia High School, setting a strong foundation for New Braunfels' future. With a competitive squad returning and fresh energy from the coaching staff, the Unicorns are ready to make noise in their district. Here are some key players to keep an eye on in 2025:      Jaxtyn is a dynamic quarterback with a strong arm and good accuracy on intermediate to deep throws. He displays solid pocket awareness, showing the ability to step up under pressure and extend plays when the pocket collapses. His decision making is developing well, as he balances aggression with patience, avoiding costly turnovers while pushing the offense downfield     Cayden is a versatile and explosive athlete who impacts the game in multiple ways. His speed and agility allow him to create separation and make plays in space, whether lined up as a receiver, defensive back, or return specialist. Cayden's quick instincts and high football IQ help him read the field effectively, making him a reliable playmaker on both sides of the ball. Physically, he's well-conditioned and tough, showing a willingness to engage in contact and make plays downfield. His competitive nature and work ethic stand out, and coaches trust him in critical situations.     Cameron Pitts is a reliable and explosive wide receiver who consistently creates separation with his precise route running and quick release off the line. He has soft hands and good body control, making contested catches look routine. Cameron's ability to track the ball in the air and adjust on the fly gives quarterbacks confidence to target him in key situations. His speed and acceleration allow him to stretch defenses vertically, while his toughness and yards-after-catch ability make him a consistent playmaker after the catch. Cameron also shows strong work ethic in blocking assignments, making him a complete receiver.     Lyric is a versatile tight end who brings a strong combination of size, athleticism, and reliable hands to the field. He shows solid route running skills for his position and the ability to create separation against linebackers and safeties. Lyric is a dependable target in the middle of the field, showing good body control and catching ability in traffic. In addition to his receiving skills, Lyric is a physical blocker who contributes well in the run game, demonstrating good technique and toughness at the point of attack. His versatility makes him a valuable asset in both the passing and running game.     Calen is a confident and athletic defensive back who excels in coverage with quick feet and sharp instincts. He reads the quarterback well, allowing him to anticipate routes and make timely breaks on the ball. He plays with physicality in run support and is willing to come up and make tackles near the line of scrimmage.
