Preseason Review - Brandeis Broncos

The Brandeis Broncos have been one of the more consistent programs in San Antonio over the past decade, and after their move to the Northeast division, all eyes were on how they'd adapt to new competition. Under first year head coach Kimmie Lewis the former Harlan defensive coordinator the Broncos put together a solid 6-4 overall record, going 4-3 in district play. Looking ahead to 2025, Brandeis returns a core group of rising seniors who gained meaningful reps last fall. With a full year under Coach Lewis's culture and expectations, this group should take a noticeable step forward. Whether it's working through progressions or taking advantage of defensive mismatches, he shows a natural feel for the game.      Brennon brings a gritty edge to the offensive line with a frame built for physical football. He fires off the ball with purpose and sets the tone early with a violent initial punch. What makes him stand out is his ability to anchor against power while staying balanced in space rarely caught off balance or chasing. He's quick to diagnose stunts and blitzes, showing a high level of awareness up front. Brennon doesn't just block his man he erases him. A tone-setter in the trenches who plays with attitude and consistency.      Kai is a confident defensive back who thrives on technique, awareness, and relentless effort. He stays disciplined in coverage, mirrors routes with ease, and consistently puts himself in position to make plays on the ball. His ability to anticipate throws and break with urgency makes him a threat in both man and zone schemes. Kai brings juice to the field whether it's flying downhill in run support or locking down a matchup on the perimeter. He's a tone setting defender who plays with pride and purpose every snap.      Lukas is an active linebacker who plays with urgency and a nose for the football. He triggers fast when diagnosing plays and takes smart angles to close gaps in the run game. His range shows up when covering ground sideline to sideline, and he's comfortable dropping into coverage or coming downhill to disrupt.      Nick is a high motor defensive lineman who plays with power and purpose in the trenches. He consistently wins with leverage, hand placement, and effort making it tough for offenses to control him at the point of attack. A bluecollar lineman with upside and the drive to match.     Grayson is a wide receiver on the rise, poised to take the next step in his development. He runs crisp routes with good timing and shows reliable hands in contested catch situations. Grayson attacks the ball aggressively and understands how to create separation with sudden breaks and sharp cuts. His work ethic stands out as he continues to refine his technique and improve his explosiveness. Ready to become a consistent playmaker, Grayson has the skill set and mindset to elevate his game this season.      CJ Parker is a disruptive defensive lineman who plays with a relentless motor and solid technique. He excels at using his hands to control blockers and consistently works to shed blocks and penetrate the backfield. CJ's quick first step and burst off the snap allow him to collapse pockets and make plays behind the line. His effort never wanes, and he shows a knack for staying low and driving through contact. A tough, dependable presence on the defensive front who can anchor against the run and provide pressure up front.      Jorge Serna is a physical and instinctive linebacker who plays with purpose and aggression. He reads plays quickly and attacks downhill with authority, making solid tackles in the open field. Jorge's ability to shed blocks and maintain gap integrity sets him apart, allowing him to consistently disrupt the run game.      Shaun is a dynamic athlete with the versatility to impact the game in multiple ways. Whether lining up in the backfield, out wide, or on defense, he uses his speed, agility, and instincts to create mismatches. His ability to read the field and make quick decisions stands out, as does his physicality when needed. Who's a playmaker who can contribute as a runner, receiver, and defender, making him a valuable asset in any scheme.    The Broncos' 2024 season showcased a team full of grit, growth, and determination. While there were ups and downs, the players consistently battled hard and laid a foundation for the future. Key young talent emerged, and the coaching staff's adjustments throughout the year showed promise for continued improvement. As the Broncos look ahead, the focus will be on building chemistry, refining fundamentals, and turning close games into wins.
