The Perkins-Tryon Demons were determined to prove a lot of people wrong in 2024. Following a run to the 3A semifinals in 2023, the Demons lost the majority of their starters and a lot of the production from that team. So coming into the 2024 season, they were on the outside looking in on the 3A preseason rankings. That was a mistake. Although it didn't look like a mistake at first. The Demons started the season 2-2, including a 48-0 loss to Sulphur in the district opener. We thought the Demons would be a playoff team but weren't sure how far they would go. Following that 2-2 start, they didn't lose again throughout the rest of the regular season. And they were pretty dominant in the majority of those six consecutive victories. The offense was hitting their stride and they only had one game during that winning streak that was decided by a touchdown or less. They beat Bristow in week nine but it was competitive. The Demons brought back just four starters from that 2023 season and they still managed to average just north of 35 points per game. They would punch their ticket to the playoffs but the year would come to an end there. They lost to Pauls Valley in the first round, falling 20-17. The season came to an end with an 8-3 record. But we'll definitely raise our hand and say we got it wrong. We didn't think they would have that type of winning season and they exceeded expectations. But now, those expectations are right where Perkins-Tryon wants them to be. They want to be considered one of Class 3A's best.

2025 OUTLOOK

Perkins-Tryon comes into the 2025 football season as the number five team in our Class 3A preseason rankings. Granted, they weren't ranked last year and went 8-3 so maybe they're even better than number five and will prove us wrong again. Five starters are back on the offensive side of the ball. And this was an offense that was pretty consistent and high scoring throughout the 2024 season. The majority of their production is back from the skill departments but they will need some new offensive linemen to step up and they'll need to step up quickly. The strength of the Demon offense last season was the running game. They have two fantastic running backs returning but they'll need the big guys up front paving the way for that success to continue. Defensively, they bring back seven starters on that side of the ball. Two years ago, when they were making a run to the semifinals, the defense was lights out, giving up under ten points per game. Now, we don't know if this year's defense can replicate that kind of success but we really like the guys they bring back on that side of the ball. The ceiling for this group as a unit is going to be pretty high when they go into the season. When you look at the schedule, you see one where the Demons could be 8-2 or 9-1 at the end of the regular season or maybe even flirting with 10-0. The biggest game of the year comes in the district opener against Sulphur. But if the Demons win that, they could be in a position to make a run to the district title and even further once they get to the playoffs.

Senior quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1708787' first='Beau' last='Gravitt'] returns for his second season as QB1 of the Perkins-Tryon offense. Last season, Gravitt was not asked to do a lot in the pass game because they were so strong with the run. But he still threw for nearly 1,000 yards and ten touchdowns while also adding five touchdowns on the ground. And when we look at the Demon offense this season, they will still be a run-first squad because of the personnel that they have. But having an experienced quarterback returning in Gravitt will definitely open some doors when they get into passing situations.

Senior defensive end [player_tooltip player_id='1708791' first='Ethan' last='Anderson'] returns after a fantastic junior season. Anderson was one of the leaders on the teams in tackles with 73 and he also was second on the team in tackles for loss and sacks. Simply put, he was an absolute nightmare for opposing offensive linemen to try and stay in front of. Now, Anderson has the potential to see that production absolutely skyrocket this season. They have to replace Applegate, who was one of the state's best at getting into the backfield. If Anderson can replicate some of that production this season, he will have a very big year.

Senior running back [player_tooltip player_id='1370665' first='Raiden' last='McLemore'] has the potential to be one of the best running backs in Class 3A this season. You saw flashes of what he could do as a junior last fall. McLemore was one of the breakout players in Class 3A, going from somewhat of an unknown to the top running back on this Perkins-Tryon roster, that had several guys getting plenty of carries. McLemore would lead the team in carries, yards and touchdowns. He finished with 15 touchdowns on the ground and is hungry for more this fall. After watching him in person a couple times this offseason, he has the tools to be an absolute dude.

Senior running back [player_tooltip player_id='1161913' first='Wyatt' last='Atkinson'] is another running back to keep an eye on in this Perkins-Tryon offense this season. It was interesting to watch how the Demons moved offensively and the balancing act they had at running back. They had three guys that all got legitimate carries. Now, they have McLemore and Atkinson leading the way. Atkinson's carries should go up this season and if that happens, look for the yards and touchdowns to go up as well. Atkinson is no stranger to more production in the run game. He had a terrific sophomore campaign in 2023.

2025 SCHEDULE

Sept. 5th - Dewey
- For the second straight season, Perkins-Tryon will open up the regular season against Dewey. Last season, the Demons opened up the season with a 49-0 victory over the Bulldoggers. As it turned out, that 49-point win was the widest margin of victory. Last season's meeting was their first since 2009.
Sept. 12th - AT Cushing
- In week two, Perkins-Tryon goes on the road for their annual non-district clash with Cushing. This has been a relatively even series over the last two decades but Cushing definitely has the edge right now. They've won four out of the last five meetings, including last year's 23-13 victory.
Sept. 18th - Daniel Webster
- The non-district slate will wrap up on a Thursday night in week three, against Daniel Webster out of Tulsa. Last season, these two teams met for the first time and the Demons rolled to an easy victory. Perkins-Tryon won 55-14 last season and look to do much of the same this season.
Sept. 26th - AT Sulphur
- All eyes will be on this district opener as Perkins-Tryon goes on the road to face Sulphur. The Bulldogs won this match-up 48-0 and went on to finish as Class 3A Runner Ups. This season, Perkins-Tryon wants to get the win here. Whoever wins is definitely in the driver's seat for the district crown.
Oct. 3rd - Mannford
- Following their showdown with Sulphur, the Demons return home to host Mannford in week five. Last year, the Demons bounced back from a loss to Sulphur by beating Mannford 42-7. That was their seventh consecutive win over the last decade. They look to continue that dominance here.
Oct. 10th - AT Seminole
- The second half of the regular season will kick off with a road game against Seminole. Last season, Perkins-Tryon had no problems with the Chieftains, winning 52-8 in week six. Prior to last season, these two teams hadn't met on the gridiron since they were district opponents in 2012 and 2013.
Oct. 16th - Victory Christian
- On a Fall Break Thursday night in week seven, the Demons will host Victory Christian. The Conquerors are one of several district opponents that will have a first year head coach this season. Last year, Perkins-Tryon won 42-30. Prior to last year, they last met all the way back in 2009.
Oct. 24th - AT Lone Grove
- In week eight, Perkins-Tryon goes on the road to face Lone Grove. The Longhorns were another new opponent for the Demons in district play but not a new opponent recently. Perkins-Tryon beat the Longhorns in the 2021 and 2023 playoffs before beating the 42-10 last year.
Oct. 31st - Bristow
- On a Halloween night in week nine, Perkins-Tryon will host Bristow. The Demons won this match-up 42-35 last season. Out of their six district wins, this was the closest one. Bristow will have a first year head coach this fall. Prior to last season, these two teams hadn't met since 2013.
Nov. 7th - AT McLoud
- The regular season will wrap up with a road game against McLoud. The Redskins will have a first year head coach this season and this is a series that Perkins-Tryon has dominated. They won 42-7 last season and have won ten straight in the series. Almost all of those wins by 20+ points.

NOTABLE

Perkins-Tryon comes into this season feeling like they have unfinished business. And at this point, they should go into every season expecting to contend in Class 3A because that's exactly who they've been. Last season, they punched their ticket to the playoffs for the 15th consecutive season. There aren't many 3A programs that have longer playoff streaks than the Demons. So the expectation every season has become playoffs but they want much more than that. They got a taste of playoff success two years ago when they made it all the way to the semifinals. And last year they got bounced out in the first round and that has no doubt left a sour taste in their mouths for the last six months. But it will be interesting to see how far Perkins-Tryon can go. Class 3A has been owned by private schools for the last decade. Whether it's Heritage Hall or most recently with Lincoln Christian. But Perkins-Tryon's district opponent Sulphur became the first public school to play for the 3A title in a few years. The Demons know it can be done. Now they have to do it.
