The Kingston Redskins came into the 2024 football season with high expectations and to a certain extent, they lived up to those expectations. They were a top five team in our preseason rankings and they nearly went perfect in the regular season. The only slip up came early on in the season, when they lost a heartbreaker in the final minutes to a Fairview team that had won 30+ consecutive games. But the Redskins wouldn't lose another game moving forward. They went into a district slate, where every single opponent was going to be new for Kingston when it came to district play. They opened with a thrilling overtime win over Kiefer and then from there, they were never really challenged. In fact, throughout the rest of the regular season, they won every game by at least 20 points and finished the season with a 9-1 record and captured the district championship. They looked like a team that could really contend in the newly formed Class 2A-1. They opened up the playoffs with a 35-point win in the first round to punch their ticket to the quarterfinals. Unfortunately, the season came to an end in the quarterfinal round after the Redskins would trip up against Marlow, losing 27-21. The season came to an end with a 10-2 record but it was the second straight year that Kingston won 10 games. The Redskins have some momentum as they look ahead to 2025 and they expect to once again contend for that gold ball.

2025 OUTLOOK

For the second straight year, Kingston will go into the season as a top five preseason team in the 2A-1 rankings. Half of their starters return from last season but offensively, they have some of their top production returning for a unit that averaged 40 points per game in 2024. Offensively, they bring back six starters from last year's team, but it will start with the quarterback and running back positions. They have a lot of potential in the backfield and it wouldn't be surprising to see Kingston average around 40 points per game again or even more this season. Defensively, Kingston will have five starters returning from last year's team. So this will be a situation where the majority of starters this season are new faces but Kingston is confident that those new starters are going to be ready to go. The Redskins were fortunate last season that the majority of their games were decided by 20 or more points. That means they were able to get a lot of players some playing time so even if they have plenty of new starters this season, that doesn't mean that they have zero experience coming into this season. And when we look at the schedule, Kingston is once again going to be the favorite in the district. And it wouldn't be crazy to look up in November and see Kingston as one of the undefeated teams in Class 2A-1. It's not going to be a cakewalk, they're going to be challenged. But we like the firepower they bring back and this has turned into a team that expects to win at a high level. Now they have to take that next step and truly contend for a state championship this season.

We really like the firepower that Kingston brings back but an offense can't function to the best of their abilities without solid play on the offensive line. Junior [player_tooltip player_id='1708812' first='Blane' last='Henry'] is a name that we're going to watch on both sides of the line of scrimmage. Henry has pretty good size and is a player that could help pave the way for the Kingston offense. Last season, the offensive line was one of the weak points in terms of returning experience. So they had a lot of new faces in 2024 but in 2025, they hope that those young faces have turned into veterans. Henry is one of the names we'll be watching.

Senior [player_tooltip player_id='1708806' first='Logan' last='Stephens'] is a player that Kingston is excited to get back in 2025. Stephens will play offense and defense this season, lining up at running back on offense and then he'll play in the secondary as a safety on defense. Last season, Stephens had to watch from the sideline as he missed the year with an injury. So there's no doubt that he's going to be hungry to get back on the field and help his team on both sides of the ball. When we got our info sheet back from the Kingston coaches, Stephens was one of the top players highlighted to watch this season. It could be a breakout year for Stephens.

[player_tooltip player_id='1330264' first='Parks' last='Ratzlaff'] is going to be one of our favorite players to watch in Class 2A-1 heading into this season. Ratzlaff was a production machine on the offensive side of the ball last season for the Redskins. As a running back, Ratzlaff would finish the year with 77 carries for nearly 600 yards and seven touchdowns. He was also nearly just as productive as a wide receiver. He had 19 catches for over 400 yards and six touchdowns. How Kingston will use Ratzlaff on the offensive side of the ball is one of the top things we're looking for in 2025. He'll also help the Redskins on defense as a linebacker.

Senior quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1330266' first='Reid' last='Patterson'] comes into this season as one of the more experienced and yet underrated quarterbacks in Class 2A-1. We should really be talking about him more heading into the season considering the kind of career he's had. He's a winner and he's produced at a high level. Last season, Patterson threw for just shy of 2,000 yards and 28 touchdowns, with just five interceptions. He also ran for over 800 yards and ten touchdowns. He had a really strong junior season and now he's looking to take his game to a new level and to help lead Kingtson to new heights in 2025.

Junior [player_tooltip player_id='1708817' first='Ty' last='Jones'] is a player that can really impact the game on both sides of the football for Kingston this season. Offensively, Jones is one of the top producers in the passing game that returns in 2025. Last season, Jones would have 20 catches for over 350 yards but he also had seven touchdowns. Nearly half of his receptions went for scores in 2024. Granted, if his production goes up from a reception standpoint, it's going to be hard to keep up with that ratio but there's no doubt the skill is there. Jones will also help the Redskins on defense as a linebacker.

2025 SCHEDULE

Aug. 29th - Madill
- For the fourth consecutive season, Kingston opens up their regular season slate against Madill. The Redskins beat Madill 35-7 last season and it was their second straight win in the series. Madill has the series advantage over the last two decades but Kingston is quickly turning things around.
Sept. 5th - AT Fairview
- Kingston heads northwest to square off with Fairview in week one. The Redskins hosted the Yellowjackets last season and they were stunned in the final minute of the game, losing 35-28. But Fairview is going to look pretty different in 2025 after they were hit hard by graduation.
Sept. 12th - AT Comanche
- The non-district slate comes to a close in week two with a road game against Comanche. Last season was their first meeting since these two were district opponents in 2018 and 2019. Last year, the Redskins rolled to a 42-6 victory. A win here gives them momentum going into district play.
Sept. 26th - AT Kiefer
- District play kicks off week four with Kingston's third consecutive road game. And it won't be an easy one as they got on the road to face Kiefer. The Redskins would knock off the Trojans last season in the district opener but it was a 29-28 victory. This year's match-up could be another close one.
Oct. 3rd - Okmulgee
- After going the entire month of September with road games, Kingston finally returns home in week five to host Okmulgee. The Redskins rolled to a 42-16 victory over the Bulldogs last season. This should be another game that Kingston feels good about and it kicks off a solid home stretch.
Oct. 10th - AT Bethel
- The second half of the regular season begins with a road game against Bethel in week six. Last season, Kingston got the best of Bethel with a 71-30 victory. It was a unique outcome. The 71 points were the most they scored in 2024. It was the largest margin of victory but the 30 points were the second most they gave up.
Oct. 16th - Heavener
- On a Fall Break Thursday night, Kingston will host Heavener in week seven. This was another new match-up for the Redskins and another one where they didn't have any problems. Kingston would roll to a 52-14 victory. They'll be looking to pick up some momentum with another win here.
Oct. 24th - AT Prague
- Kingston goes back on the road for the final time in the regular season when they travel to face Prague in week eight. Kingston would knock off the Red Devils 42-12 in last season's first meeting. And Prague is going to look different with several losses to graduation and transfers this offseason.
Oct. 31st - Hugo
- Hugo was the only new district opponent that Kingston had some familiarity with last season. They had met each year in non-district play since 2018. The Redskins prevailed 42-14 in last season's meeting and it was their ninth win in the last ten meetings with the Buffaloes.
Nov. 7th - Roland
- The regular season comes to an end in week ten with a home game against Roland. In their first meeting last season, Kingston would roll to a 43-6 victory over the Rangers. This season, the Redskins are going to be looking for a win to close out what they are hoping is another district title run.

NOTABLE

Kingston is one of those programs in the new Class 2A-1 that could very easily become a consistent contender for the gold ball. Look at their record over the last decade and you see a program that is winning at least ten games in most seasons. But during this stretch, they only have one semifinal appearance and that's something that they want to change this season. We mentioned it earlier in the preview but Kingston is going into the season as the favorite to win their district and they could actually hit ten wins for the third consecutive year by the end of the regular season. A 10-0 regular season record isn't a far stretch when you consider the talent that the Redskins have coming back this season. But Kingston isn't going to settle for another 10-win season and make it back to the playoffs. They want to be among the best in Class 2A-1 and to contend for the title, you have to get out of the quarterfinal round. They have a team that can do that in 2025.
