Film Study: Section 6-9 2026 DB's

Throughout the summer, we will be looking at the 2026, 2027, 2028 NY recruiting classes. While stats show numbers, film shows the entire story. For this series we will be looking at 10 players in each position throughout the next three cycles. In this edition of DB Film Study we have [player_tooltip player_id='1207736' first='James' last='Galiano'], [player_tooltip player_id='834566' first='Liam' last='McQuiggan'], [player_tooltip player_id='1561429' first='Nyhiem' last='Owens'], [player_tooltip player_id='1661765' first='Nelson' last='Frias'], [player_tooltip player_id='1628216' first='Jacob' last='Gould'].    The East Meadow prospect stands at 5'9", 155 pounds displaying a slim build for a Defensive Back. The Section Six prospect can add good weight to improve his frame.   Galiano plays a number of positions including DB, RB, OLB, he is a solid athlete in all three aspects of his game. More film was found on the RB side of his game where he displayed a solid burst with a good IQ.   Galiano's position will likely switch to RB in the recent updates of our 2026 rankings, but his frame and decent speed show the potential ability to drop back in coverage even at an OLB position.      Standing at 5'9", 150 pounds, the Section Six prospect displays an undersized build for Defensive back position. Given his undersized frame, adding 10-15 pounds of good weight can be beneficial for him.   The Dunkirk prospect can play on both sides of the ball, displaying attributes at the WR and DB position. He lost his Sophomore season due to injury, making his Junior Year important. He displays a solid IQ with the ability to read a QB. McQuiggan displays fluent hips, allowing him to display excellent body control and good COD.   The Dunkirk athlete is a solid tackler and certainly a breakout candidate for his Senior Season.      Standing at 5'8" 145 pounds, the Section Nine prospect is undersized for the Defensive Back position. For matchups against bigger targets, adding 10-20 pounds of good weight can benefit Owens at the next level.   On tape, Owens displays good vision and excellent body control. He is a ball hawk who always finds his way towards the football. He excels in Man Coverage and has outstanding body control which he uses to get himself turned around in order to make plays on the ball. Zone Coverage snaps are limited due to his defensive system, but he displays a great IQ and is good in space rarely missing tackles.   The Cornwall Central prospect is one of the top DB's in Section Nine for a good reason. Despite his frame, he is an outstanding athlete who displays attributes needed in the Secondary.      Frias has an exceptional build for a Defensive Back. Standing at 6'3" 217 pounds, he is a two way athlete who can play both WR and TE on Offense and OLB and DB on Defense.   Frias attended the NY/NJ Mega Camp in May, where he displays a solid 4.8 speed, giving him a good burst for both positions. He projects mainly as a DB who has the potential to switch if needed. On tape, Frias plays mostly as a Safety. He displays good tackling with a solid IQ, allowing him to plug the gap on run plays and lay out RB's with big hits.   Frias is a new prospect that has come across our board. Given his frame, film and performances in camps and combines, we can expect to see Frias ranked shortly.      Standing at 5'8", 155 pounds, the Farmingdale athlete displays a slim build for a Defensive Back position. He is a two-way athlete who took snaps at both WR and DB during his Junior Season.   In his tape against East Meadow High School, Gould displays a solid IQ with a good understanding of offensive schemes stemming from his snaps at WR. He displayed solid speed with good hands which translate on both sides of the ball.   Gould is an intriguing Section Eight prospect who can play skill positions on both sides of the ball. I project him mainly as a DB but splitting snaps benefits the Farmingdale prospect.
