Sights and Sounds: Capital 7×7 Jamboree

Most teams begin preseason camp on Aug. 4.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The jamboree marked our last opportunity to watch Del Norte, Highland, Valley, Los Alamos and Capital in action before the players put on the pads for good in 10 days.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Sophomore <strong>George Salzano</strong> took most of the snaps for Highland. Hornets head coach Phillip Lovato confirmed to Prep Redzone New Mexico that Salzano is the likely Week 1 starter against Manzano on Aug. 21.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Valley senior QB <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1600815' first='Jose' last='Jaramillo']</strong> looked strong again, continuing his solid summer. Jaramillo split snaps with a senior QB in 2024 but the job is exclusively his in 2025.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Rising sophomore <strong>Nicholas Archuleta</strong> took most of the snaps at QB for Del Norte and Knights head coach Dallas Peterson confirmed to Prep Redzone New Mexico that he is the likely Week 1 starter when Del Norte clashes with Hope Christian on Aug. 23 at Milne Stadium.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Rising junior <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1604951' first='Ace' last='Bachicha']</strong> took all the snaps at QB for Capital as he appears to have locked down the Jaguars' starting QB job. Bachicha was the backup QB in 2024. Now his time to run Capital's Air Raid offense has arrived.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>For Los Alamos, rising senior <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1751662' first='Hayden' last='Watkins']</strong> and rising sophomore <strong>Caleb Taylor</strong> rotated snaps as the Hilltoppers QB, continuing their summer long battle for the starting job. However, Los Alamos head coach Garrett Williams told Prep Redzone New Mexico that Watkins is the likely starter based on his experience and the fact he's a senior. Williams added, though, Taylor has performed well this summer.
