On Tuesday, June 3, 2025 I was personally invited back for the third consecutive year by Fairleigh Dickinson University Head Football Coach Anthony Van Curen to cover his Football Mega Camp. With many other universities now following suit with mega camps of their own, Van Curen's is the O.G. in the area and, quite frankly, everyone is just biting off his style. However, at this point the term “mega” is probably an understatement to describe his event.

In what I would consider more of a celebration of the game, between the 560+ prospects registered, 100+ college coaches watching, clinicians, parents, and high school staffs there were literally around 1000 people coming out to compete, make connections, and enjoy an evening sample taste of football. As has become the norm for Van Curen's baby, the event was organized, structured, ran well, and was highly competitive.

In addition to eyeing prospects up, measuring their combine performances (40-yard dash, Pro Agility, Broad Jump), I was fortunate enough to receive unimpeded access to the grounds to evaluate and scout the talent on hand. In this article, I share my notes for the position group mentioned in its title.

Rahway was a team that re[presented well at this event - both in terms of numbers and performance. The Indians sent a pair of 2027 linebackers in [player_tooltip player_id='1703722' first='Ja'Quan' last='Robinson'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1270001' first='Jair' last='Jordan']. [player_tooltip player_id='1703722' first='Ja'Quan' last='Robinson'] was quick when moving backwards. Blessed with a tall, long frame wand arm length, Robinson might play edge or project out as an edge player at the next level. I did catch a glimpse of him during individual drills, where he looked good suffocating ball carriers and eliminating space during cat and mouse drills... For [player_tooltip player_id='1270001' first='Jair' last='Jordan'], he showed a clear burst while running in phase and deep against running backs out of the backfield. Moreover, he also moved well laterally and was able to stop-and-start instantaneously. When covering, Jordan was physical, using his strong hands and locking out his arms to stifle route fakes. Lastly, his pad level is something Jordan should remain mindful of as he prepares for his junior season.

Product of a strong program in Chathan, Caden Gabriele. Gabriele moves like a run-stuffing B-gap-to-B-gap linebacker who likes to thump. Additionally, Gabriele's pad level was not just solid in drill work, but it was maintained as he ran too. One area he can be mindful of his when covering deep, match his receiver's hands/head, relying on them as visual keys for when he should look to play the ball... From neighboring town Hillside, [player_tooltip player_id='434091' first='Joziah' last='Mays'] made the quick drive over. In a very limited sample size I caught of him, Mays had a burst and was able to stay deep with his matchup.
