Execution will be key.

That's the biggest thing Broome head coach Lynn Fleming is looking for as his team continues to prepare for the start of fall camp and the season opener against Belton-Honea Path on August 22.

“The good thing is we have a lot of experience, especially at the skill positions. Execution coming out of the 7-on-7s is very key for us. Now we're into a part where we're not just learning routes, we're understanding why we're running it. (Making sure) we understand leverage on defensive guys whether there'll be linebackers or DBs. So that's the biggest thing for us offensively. Defensively, it's just rallying to the football. (When the) ball's caught, no matter where it is, from running back out of the backfield (or) a guy underneath, it's just getting to the football is the biggest thing for us defensively. It's something we put a big emphasis on,” Fleming said.

The Centurions did not lose a ton of seniors and that experience returning should pay dividends in 2025. They'll have a lot of guys playing both on offense and defense beginning on the lines of scrimmage with Levi Bishop, Ricky McCullough and Eli Rose. Carson Taylor will anchor things on the offensive line at the center position.

STARS SET TO SHINE

[player_tooltip player_id='1592026' first='Tyqwon' last='Booker'] WR, 2026 – Booker was the Centurions' leading rusher in 2024, finishing with 1305 yards and eight touchdowns. He had eight games with over 100+ yards rushing and had 119 yards receiving. Fleming says he will play receiver in 2025 and he can catch the 50-50 balls and jump well. He's one of the many players that will play double duty this fall. He went to camp at North Greenville and Newberry this summer.

General expectations heading into 2025: “(We're) trying to work harder and just don't worry about last season.”

[player_tooltip player_id='1592321' first='Jameson' last='Dearybury'] QB, 2026 – Dearybury (pictured above) is back for his senior season with the Centurions, after throwing for 2041 yards and 21 touchdowns, and completing 65% of his passes in 2024. He has impressive velocity on his throws – he puts it only where his receiver can get it. He excels on making throws on roll outs as well. He has good pocket presence and sees the field well.

General expectations heading into 2025: “It's a lot different than last year. I think we're a lot better in the head and we're in a lot better shape than we were last year.”

Improvements heading into 2025: “We changed a lot of things on offense, putting people in different positions and a lot of stuff on defense, so that'll help a lot.”

Lessons from the summer that he wants to take into the fall: “Just trying to keep up with everything that we're doing, all the plays and all the timing and stuff. (We want to) carry it in the season, especially in our conditioning, just keeping us in shape as we go throughout the season.”

[player_tooltip player_id='1676737' first='Asher' last='Littlejohn'] CB/WR, 2026 – The All-Region cornerback in 2024 will make the jump to outside linebacker in 2025. He anticipates the ball well and can knock balls away and can stay stride for stride with receivers. He had three interceptions in 2025. He visited Wofford and North Greenville University for camp this summer and has an offer from Brevard College.

Lessons from the summer that he wants to take into the fall: “Definitely my conditioning, being ready to go in August instead of taking a week or two to get back in shape.

Reece Waugerman RB, 2026 – Waugerman recorded 445 yards receiving and five touchdowns, along with 43 yards rushing in 2024. His role should increase heading into 2025 and that versatility should make him a viable weapon for the Centurions.

KEY LOSSES

Preston Thrift WR – Out of all the returners back from Broome's offense, he is the only graduating senior we could find. had 224 yards on 48 carries and found the end zone on the ground twice in 2024. They'll need to find a piece to plug in to replace his production.

Grayson Bradley LB – Bradley was a leader on the Centurion defense, finishing with 41 tackles and four tackles for a loss.

FILM REVIEW

[player_tooltip player_id='1453176' first='Brayden' last='Simpson'] WR, 2027 – The Centurions' leading wide receiver in yards (719) is back for his junior season. He recorded five touchdowns receiving as well in 2024. If you need a dynamic wideout who can make plays on special teams, Simpson is your guy. There were at least two scores on plays where he found a seam and ran right through it. He can go up and make catches, especially on routes to the corner and the sidelines. We expect him to have another big season.

UP AND COMING POTENTIAL

Jaylen Ramirez LB, 2026 – Ramirez had 46 tackles in 2024 and will lead things defensively at linebacker. The Centurions will be switching things up schematically in 2024, so his ability to pick up things quickly will help him bring the defense along as he will be counted on as the senior leader.

Corley Turner WR/DB, 2028 – Turner is only a sophomore, but saw time on JV at quarterback and he can sling it around. He excelled on making throws out on the run and has good size for the position. They used him on designed quarterback keepers and he's hard to bring down. Fleming says he will play wide receiver and defensive back and it should be interesting to see how Turner adapts to the change.

Crook will play on both lines of scrimmage in 2025, and he did a solid job from his guard spot in 2024. He can move well to create run lanes for the run game and can pull around and create blocks that way. The quarterback will have time to make his throws with him at the tackle position.
