The year may be different, but the expectations remain the same from Bamberg-Ehrhardt in 2025 after an 8-3 campaign in 2024 and falling to Lake View in the third round of the playoffs.

“The expectation, it doesn't really change. We always want to make it to that level, you know what I'm saying? (That's) the state championship. That doesn't change this year,” senior running back/linebacker [player_tooltip player_id='1196428' first='Jalen' last='McGraw'] (pictured above) told us at the Prep Redzone Media Day on July 11.

Leading the way up front on the defensive side at linebacker will be [player_tooltip player_id='1217173' first='Rakeem' last='Walker'] along with Jordan Williams. One name to keep your eye on offensively is [player_tooltip player_id='1036756' first='Jordan' last='Bovain'], who transferred in from Hampton. He was a dangerous home run threat in the slot in 2024. He runs track with a time of 4.4. He could catch a vertical seam route, like we saw on his film against zone coverage and pluck the ball out of the air for a touchdown.

Crosby feels good about what he has in the program with around 50 players that have been participating in summer workouts. As the season opener approaches on the road against Edisto on August 22, he wants his group to focus on taking it one step at a time.

“(We want to) finish this summer strong. We've got one last one (7-on-7) with Irmo, and we always finish that year out with Irmo. A big 5A school that we want to see how we stand (at the) end of the summer. But finish it out strong and be ready to go July 31st, when we come in and (start) camp and take every day, take one day at a time and just stack days,” Crosby said.

STARS SET TO SHINE

[player_tooltip player_id='816740' first='Marcus' last='Cann'] ATH, 2026 – Cann is a dynamic athlete with the ball in his hands. He can line up in the slot on offense at wide receiver and take a simple bubble screen to the house. He's also effective in the special teams' game with speed. If he finds a lane, it will probably be a house call. Colleges are taking notice as he currently has offers from the University of Fort Lauderdale, Brevard College and Hampden-Sydney.

Something he feels he can take to another level this year: “Leadership. I'm good at leading the team, you know what I'm saying? When we're in a down moment and need a player to step up, I'll be there to help the team out.”

Expectations heading into 2025: “I'm just looking to better myself from last year. This season is my senior year so I'm just trying to give it my all and everything.”

[player_tooltip player_id='1196428' first='Jalen' last='McGraw'] RB/LB, 2026 – McGraw was effective from his linebacker position in being able to rush the passer. Even if he can't get to the passer, he could get his hands up and bat the ball away. He has that awareness that you need to be able to recognize plays and react quickly to shut down a play before it can get going. He finished the 2024 season with 24 TFLs and 87 total tackles. He currently has offers from Gardner Webb University, Anderson University, Hampden-Sydney, Catawba College and Stony Brook.

Improvements heading into 2025: “Just my speed. Making sure I can move and have loose hips and just getting better at coverage in man.”

Something you feel you can take to another level this year: “I'm a pretty fast guy. I'm pretty humble, you know what I'm saying? I'm very coachable, that's very important to have.”

Brian McMillian QB/DB, 2027 – McMillian was primarily used as a wide receiver and safety in 2024, but the Red Raiders plan to use him more at quarterback in 2025. His highlights at wide receiver are impressive with his ability to make one-on-one contested catches when the quarterback goes up top on a shot play, like a vertical route. He can also patrol the middle of the field at safety and go up and make interceptions.

Improvements heading into 2025: “Learn how to communicate on the field (and) leadership.”

Something you feel you can take to another level this year: “Just getting my speed up (and) talking to the players (and) coach them through (situations). If they don't know what to do, just lead them through.”

Expectations heading into 2025: “Lead them through. Let them know what they've got to do.”

Jason Youmans WR/DB, 2027 – The thing that is impressive when you turn on Youmans tape as a wide receiver is his ability to make things happen after the catch. He can take a five yard curl route and turn it into a 20-yard touchdown catch. He also has the ability to make someone miss in space and get up field as quickly as possible. We have a feeling big things are in store for him in 2025.

FILM REVIEW

Anthony Williams WR/DB, 2027 – Williams is a threat on the outside at receiver and can make catches in a variety of ways. The first being in a one-on-one situation on a go route, where he can make an acrobatic grab and get into the endzone. We also saw him make catches on the out routes, which helps keep the offense on schedule even in tight man coverage. He can pluck the ball right out of the air and he should be fun to watch in 2025.

KEY LOSSES

Chanston Crosby QB – Crosby made plays with his rocket arm and got the ball to his playmakers and the Red Raiders will be looking to replace his productivity. He is now at North Carolina Central University.

Jarvis Logan OL/DL – Logan was tough to block on the interior of the defensive line. The Red Raiders will now be tasked with finding someone else to fill that void.

UP AND COMING POTENTIAL

Pierre Fuller OL/DL, 2027 and Jaden Moody OL/DL, 2026 – The Red Raiders will have to replace some pieces on the offensive and defensive lines, but Crosby is excited about the potential at that position. Expect these two to lead the way in 2025.

Washington transferred in from Florida and checks in at 195 pounds, according to Crosby. He will contribute on both sides of the ball. On the offensive side of the ball, Washington wants to focus on breaking on his cuts when he's executing a play.
