Top Linebackers and Defensive backs at MSU prospect camp.

There was no short of talent at the MSU prospect camp. On the defensive side of the ball the prospects had a tough task ahead of them trying to bottle up these great offensive players at camp. This group of young men absolutely held their own last weekend.   The six athletes in this article really had my full attention and everyone else in attendance and deserves to be talked about more this upcoming football season.      A fierce competitor that is ready for a challenge is Colin Powell.   Every college defensive coach loves to have their players play with a little chip on their shoulders. Colin Powell just loves to go compete, and he did a fantastic job last weekend. Powell is your Pro typical press get in your face type of cornerback. He did an amazing job of staying in the receiver's hip pocket and did not allow a lot of space on the perimeter.   He has super quick, twitchy feet that allows him to move so well laterally, he really made a name for himself last weekend.     Quinten Jackson is a super scrappy polished defensive back.   Jackson is one of those players that just gets how to play defensive back, some players either have it or they don't and there is no doubt in my mind that Jackson has what it takes to be a valuable player on the back end of a college football defense. The MSU camp featured twice as many offensive players than defensive players, so that gave Jackson the opportunity to so many reps. Jackson took full advantage of it and routinely made plays on the football.   Going into the 2025 season Jackson is definitely on college scout's radar.       Lucas is a super smart, athletic linebacker ready for the next step.   I've encountered young Cocanougher now at two college prospect camps, a couple weeks ago at the SBU camp and now at the MSU camp. I have to say it doesn't seem like there was another linebacker that wanted it more than Lucas Cocanougher. He has a motor that runs extremely hot and he's going to give you everything he has every single play; you're not going to have to worry about a lack of effort from this young man.   Notably at the MSU camp, Lucas put on a clinic covering running backs out of the backfield. He closed the gap extremely fast and made every throw difficult for the quarterbacks at camp.   Lucas is going into only his sophomore year of high school, so his game is only going to develop more and more.       I loved the way Witt competed at the MSU camp.   Witt was possibly one of the best safeties at the MSU camp. Already sporting a college level size at 6'0 174 pounds, Curtiss can flat-out play the game of football. It's hard to find a safety that has the ability to play the run and pass at an elite level, and Witt is one of those players that is a complete defensive back.   Because of his size and speed, I also believe Witt can provide you with some versatility and give you some snaps at cornerback/ nickelback.   Curtiss Witt should definitely get more college looks after this 2025 season.     [player_tooltip player_id='1196891' first='Cash' last='Pomeroy'] showed up at MSU camp and left a lasting impression.   I don't think anyone showed up to the MSU camp and passed the eye test more than [player_tooltip player_id='1196891' first='Cash' last='Pomeroy'] out of Marionville, Missouri. He is every bit of his 6'2 250-pound listed height and weight; he has the classic look of a hard-nosed middle linebacker.   Being a bigger linebacker Cash has the movement skills of a linebacker much smaller. Pomeroy is a thumper in the run game no doubt about it, but he also possesses the ability to flip his hips, turn and run with running backs and wide receivers which is very valuable for any defense.   Pomeroy already has a college football offer from SEMO, but I believe that more should be rolling in very soon.     Every time I turned my head, Larkins was making plays.   Larkins is a true centerfield safety prospect. He tracks the football while it's in the air extremely well, he has one of the smoothest back pedals I've ever seen from a junior prospect. What separates him from other safety prospects is his play-recognition, he has inept football IQ and route recognition.   He pairs his ability to read the offense well with the ability to stop on a dime and use his speed to close in on the defender and make a play on the football.   Larkins has two full years left of high school football and I have no doubt that he is going to put his name on the map for college football coaches.
