A lot of times, versatility is the key for guys in 2A football. Typically among the most competitive classifications in the state, there are often more than a handful of players who have to be outstanding on both sides of the ball to make their mark.

Enter Region I-2A. There are some single-way standouts, but the bulk of the most talented players in the region play on both sides of the ball. There's no exception on our list of potential MVPs, where even the only guy listed at a single position played at least some snaps on the other side.

Here's a look at the guys who we think have a shot at being their team's MVP in 2025.

Blacksburg Wildcats

[player_tooltip player_id='1603786' first='Trevon' last='Clark'] DE/QB, 2027

Clark is one of the most unique guys on this list, simply by virtue of the positions he plays. He's a big, talented pass rusher for the Wildcats, who does a great job of getting up the field and who's very disruptive in the offensive backfield. He chases down plays, he contains well, and he generally makes life miserable for opposing QBs. He's also very good at holding his ground against the run. And, this spring, the Wildcats have worked the 6-foot-1, 225-pounder at QB, which gives them another look entirely.

Chesnee Eagles

Evan-Reece Lawter QB/FS, 2027

Later split time at QB last season, and was usually the Eagles' guy in clear passing situations. He improved steadily, and looks to continue to do so as he inherits the job full time. He's also a good runner, mixing straight-ahead power with a little bit of shiftiness and some speed, and he can do things with his legs that put the Eagles in a good position. It will be interesting to see how he progresses as a full-time QB for Chesnee, and how the team is able to gel around him.

Clinton Red Devils

[player_tooltip player_id='1161156' first='Javen' last='Cook'] RB, 2026

When you're looking for a potential MVP on a team like Clinton, the feature back is a good place to start. And it's where we'll stop, because Cook is a good one. The Red Devils' run-heavy offense features a stable of guys who will regularly carry the ball - last year they had six guys with more than 40 carries and 300 yards. Cook was the leader among them, rushing for more than 1,800 yards and scoring 21 times. He's a textbook back in the wing look that Clinton usually presents, and as he goes, so will the Devils' offense as they break in a new QB and a couple new guys up front.

Landrum Cardinals

[player_tooltip player_id='1592581' first='AJ' last='Lindsey'] WR/OLB, 2026

Lindsey's going to play both ways - and play a LOT - for the Cardinals, bringing a ton of production both offensively and defensively. He caught 23 balls for 350 yards and two TDs last season, adding 163 yards and four more scores on 29 carries. But defense is where Lindsey really shines. He had more than 100 total stops last season, with 13 tackles for loss. He also knocked down six passes, picked off two, recovered two fumbles and forced four more. Defensively, he makes everything go for Landrum.

Liberty Red Devils

[player_tooltip player_id='1303770' first='Jamijae' last='Karim'] RB/LB, 2026

When you picture a guy who plays both RB and LB at the 2A level, it's Karim. He's kind of a bowling ball-type back who picked up more than 1,000 yards and scored 15 times last season. He's tough and physical, bringing a linebacker's mentality to both sides of the ball. On defense, he's got a nasty streak and finds the ball in a hurry. He'll be a crucial factor both ways for the Red Devils.
