The 2025 high school football season is still more than two months away, but Prep Redzone Louisiana has been nonstop on the road all offseason catching up with prospects and programs around the state.

We still hadn't had the chance to spotlight a few takeaways from some of the late spring scrimmages to wrap up the 2024-25 school year.

So, playing some catch-up, here's a look at eight players from the McDonogh 35 vs. Terrebonne, Carencro vs. Plaquemine and Frederick A. Douglass vs. St. James matchups.

[player_tooltip player_id='1757532' first='Quincy' last='Adams'] — 5-10, 205 RB — Terrebonne (2026)

Even with running mate [player_tooltip player_id='710978' first='Alvin' last='Celestin'] Jr. resting during spring out of precaution, the Tigers' run game was humming. Adams, the thunder to Celestin's lightning in the tandem of 1,000-yard backs, consistently ran through, over and by defenders on his way to multiple end zone trips. The stout offensive line bookended by Division-I talent tackles [player_tooltip player_id='1345278' first='Tadan' last='Bingham'] and [player_tooltip player_id='920609' first='O'Ryan' last='Mosley'] deserves flowers for setting the table up front, but Adams also showed the ability to bowl through attempted tackles in space.

[player_tooltip player_id='1757530' first='Kylee' last='Collier'] — 6-3, 210 EDGE — Frederick A. Douglass (2026)

The rising senior defensive end was one of the Bobcats who most stood out from an eye-test standpoint as the team took the field and warmed up and he played just as big or bigger as the snaps started. An explosive St. James offense with several key pieces returning from this year's Division-III Non-Select runner-up roster was tough to slow down. But when the Wildcats were thrown off their rhythm or even stalled occasionally, Collier's disruption off the edge tended to be a key part of that equation.

[player_tooltip player_id='1801271' first='Spencer' last='Collins'] — 5-7, 165 RB — Plaquemine (2027)

Some of the biggest shoes to fill for the Green Devils this year come in the offensive backfield where they graduated quarterback Nico Victorian and running back Tyrese Mosby. But Collins looked the part of a capable successor to Mosby in Plaquemine's scrimmage against Carencro as he paired some highlight-reel breakaways for long scores with some tougher runs between the tackles on which he was able to navigate his way through traffic and keep his legs moving through contact.

[player_tooltip player_id='1736890' first='Heij' last='Jackson'] — 6-3, 185 WR — McDonogh 35 (2026)

Jackson's height and length made him an immediate focal point for the Roneagles in an early red-zone period to start the night, but the offense found ways to attack every level with the rising senior as the night progressed, giving Jackson opportunities to showcase his speed and all-around game as made plays downfield and in the quick slant and screen game with runs after the catch.

[player_tooltip player_id='1757528' first='Cameron' last='Rogers'] — 5-10, 170 LB — Plaquemine (2026)

While the Green Devils are replacing the aforementioned engines to the offense, their defense returns an experienced core that looked with its explosive physicality in the spring game like it hadn't missed a beat in the offseason and like it was already ready for fall. Rogers was among the biggest tone-setters with one jarring hit after another both near the line of scrimmage and working back in coverage.

[player_tooltip player_id='401966' first='Jakias' last='Villanueva'] — 5-6, 140 WR — St. James (2026)

The Wildcats' rising senior leader showcased the trademark quickness and route-running that helped highlight his 1,000-yard, LSWA Class 3A all-state junior season with a few quick-hit catch-and-runs, including one on which he burst through a crease for a long score. But Villanueva also showed his ability to go up and make plays in the air with a leaping touchdown over two defenders in the back corner of the end zone.

[player_tooltip player_id='920681' first='Nolan' last='Zenon'] — 6-1, 190 LB — St. James (2026)

and [player_tooltip player_id='1757523' first='Demonte' last='Lemar'] — 6-4, 210 EDGE — St. James (2026)

A long list of Wildcats made plays at every level of the defense in their scrimmage against Frederick A. Douglass, but two linebackers flying around the field for a seemingly never-ending string of tackles — probably a dozen or so between them — were among the biggest standouts. Zenon is a familiar face and name as one of Louisiana's most productive defenders as a junior, including a Class 3A all-state selection. We hadn't seen as much on the football field of Lemar. But the long, lean athlete with a basketball background was among the most active players on the field making plays at and behind the line of scrimmage.
