On Saturday, May 3 I was fortunate enough to be invited to cover You Are Athlete's New Jersey Regional Exposure Camp. This event had a double session that features middle schoolers first and high schoolers second. As is customary whenever I attend an event, the first thing I take note of are the prospects that have the clear, physical measurables to immediately compete at the next, immediate level of play – also known as the eye test.

Below are my scouting notes from the position group mentioned in this article's title.

Be sure to follow me on Twitter for the latest updates in New Jersey high school football.

We start today's coverage with two Jersey prospects. Tysim Hall, a 2029 graduate showed some really good qualities for a receiver his age, which perhaps bodes well for his future. Hall did a great job of adjusting to the ball when it was thrown behind him; whereas on the opposite end of the spectrum he was exceptional at high pointing the ball too. However, what perhaps made Hall shine out amongst his peers was the fact that out of all the reps I witnessed, he was the only receiver who snapped his hips on returning and 90 degree angling routes... For Jaylin Johnson-Carter, there is certainly more time to develop. As a younger prospect, a 2030 graduate to be exact, Johnson-Carter showed much poise competing with older and bigger prospects. As Johnson-Carter continues to develop and advance his games, I encourage him to focus on using his hands to catch the ball, rather than accepting it with his body.

Shifting gears we go up north just a bit to discuss a prospect out of New York, and another out of Connecticut. Kaiden Grooms, the New Yorker, made one of the more impressive single plays of the morning. After the 2030 graduate cooked his defender on a gorgeous double-move, Grooms then laid out to make a full-extension diving catch, maintaining contact through the ground. Needless to say, Grooms got plenty of positive reaction from everyone for this sequence... The 2029 Connecticut prospect that caught my attention was Kevin Ejlli. Ejlli made an awfully nice grab on a deep ball. The coverage on this rep was tight - tighter than maybe some other quarterbacks would have tested - but Ejlli was able to make a concentration catch in on a highly contested grab.

the prospect that I had the most to say about today was one actually out of Delaware, Jhace Barrett. Barrett, although he was smaller than many of his matchups, competed at a very high level and showed much refinement to his game, and frankly, often embarrassed the older competition. The first time I noticed the 2030 prospect was when he got wide open on a post-corner route. Unfortunately he lost that matchup due to a clear size disadvantage, but the way Barrett was able to get open was extremely noteworthy. Later on, he totally cooked an older prospect so badly that the defender committed clear and obvious pass interference. To Barrett's credit however, he caught he fought through contact to catch the ball using his hands, while maintaining possession through the ground.

You Are Athlete New Jersey Regional Exposure Camp Coverage

Eye Test, Middle School
Defensive Backs, Middle School
Quarterbacks, Middle School
Receivers, Middle School
Eye Test, High School
Defensive Line, High School
Running Backs, High School
