On Saturday, May 3 I was fortunate enough to be invited to cover You Are Athlete's New Jersey Regional Exposure Camp. This event had a double session that features middle schoolers first and high schoolers second. As is customary whenever I attend an event, the first thing I take note of are the prospects that have the clear, physical measurables to immediately compete at the next, immediate level of play – also known as the eye test.

Opening the scouting notes for this series are two host-state prospects. [player_tooltip player_id='1609898' first='Sunil' last='Kumeh'] registered as a defensive lineman; however, I thought he might be more effective as a linebacker. The more and more I watched him this afternoon, the more and more I was convinced of this. Yes, Kumeh is able to win inside, yet I am unsure whether or not he can sustain those victories - specifically on a down-to-down basis... Although if I am unsure whether what I saw was a product of inherent pass rushing ability or a product of coaching on-site, the fact remains that Jordan Nichols demonstrated an understanding on how to get to the quarterback. One rep I saw Nichols take had him get home on an outstanding rip move. However, what brought it over the top for me was the fact that Nichols finished by getting his hips through - which are often the last thing defensive lineman master when pass rushing.

We travel up through I-95 into New England for our next two prospects. I first saw [player_tooltip player_id='1668133' first='Samil' last='Nelson'] early on. The current freshman shows promise and I am excited that he is getting after it, working to develop and get better early on during his high school career. Nelson must remember to break down some, coming to balance, as he attempts to finish tackles and reps... On the other end of the spectrum was a more seasoned prospect in junior Lucca Sisto. Sisto beat his man with an outstanding club-swim combo that was put over the top with hips that allowed him to tightly turn the corner as well. Later on, Sisto bumped down some and swam the low hat of the center for an easy win. When they ran that one back, Sisto got through by club-swimming, again, the center's snap hand. Late on he was also highly effective when cross facing the center.
