<p>The state track and field championships concluded last weekend with the Class 4A and 5A competitions at the University of New Mexico track complex in Albuquerque. Based on the results, we have a good idea who will be some of the fastest players in New Mexico for the 2025 season.</p>
<!-- /wp:paragraph -->
<!-- wp:paragraph -->
<p><strong>The Fastest</strong></p>
<!-- /wp:paragraph -->
<!-- wp:paragraph -->
<p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='853013' first='Tanner' last='Montano'], La Cueva</strong>: Arguably the fastest player in the state and the most dynamic all-around athlete for the 2025 season. Montano not only won the Class 5A title in the 100 meters (10.77 seconds) but he also tied the long-standing state record (dates back to 1970) in the long jump by leaping 24 feet, 3-1/4 inches to win the title by more than a foot.</p>
<!-- /wp:paragraph -->
<!-- wp:paragraph -->
<p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1154954' first='Hershul' last='Olloway'], St. Pius X</strong>: Captured the 4A state title in the 100 meters with a time of 10.96 seconds, impressive for a rising junior. He has run the 100 in 10.7 seconds. Also finished 3rd in the 200 with a time of 22.59 seconds. He runs the 40 at camps in less than 4.4 seconds. </p>
<!-- /wp:paragraph -->
<!-- wp:paragraph -->
<p><strong>Honorable Mention</strong>:</p>
<!-- /wp:paragraph -->
<!-- wp:paragraph -->
<p><strong>Cody Clovis, Santa Fe</strong>: Clovis, a rising junior, will bring some serious speed to the Demons this fall. He won the 5A state title in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 15.32 seconds.</p>
<!-- /wp:paragraph -->
<!-- wp:paragraph -->
<p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1266545' first='Amin' last='Cooper'], Albuquerque High</strong>: Finished sixth in the 5A 100 meter final with a time of 11.1 seconds + 2nd in the 200 at 22.05 seconds. </p>
<!-- /wp:paragraph -->
<!-- wp:paragraph -->
<p><strong>Curtis Flakes, St. Pius X</strong>: The Sartans have impressive team speed (see [player_tooltip player_id='1154954' first='Hershul' last='Olloway'] above) with Flakes finishing 6th in the 4A 100 meter final with a time of 11.29 seconds. </p>
<!-- /wp:paragraph -->
<!-- wp:paragraph -->
<p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='853059' first='Andrew' last='Himes'], Bloomfield</strong>: Won the 4A title in the 110 hurdles with an impressive time of 14.67 seconds.</p>
<!-- /wp:paragraph -->
<!-- wp:paragraph -->
<p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='853064' first='Devaughn' last='Kensey'], West Las Vegas</strong>: Finished 3rd in the Class 3A 100 meter final with a time of 11.31 seconds and 4th in the 200 at 22.98 seconds.</p>
<!-- /wp:paragraph -->
<!-- wp:paragraph -->
<p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='851903' first='Jacob' last='Maldonado'], Cleveland</strong>: Ran his segment in 21.4 seconds in the state final of the 4x200 relay. His combination of size, speed and soft hands will make him a coveted prospect this fall. </p>
<!-- /wp:paragraph -->
<!-- wp:paragraph -->
<p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1155116' first='Jahari' last='Morehead'], Eldorado</strong>: Morehead is going to be a nice weapon for Eldorado this coming season. He ran the 100 in 11.13 seconds in the 5A final. </p>
<!-- /wp:paragraph -->
<!-- wp:paragraph -->
<p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1139144' first='Bryce' last='Parra'], Artesia</strong>: Finished 5th in the Class 4A 100 meter final with a time of 11.22 seconds + 2nd in the 200 with a time of 22.59 seconds.
