Prospects Sports College Showcase: MVPs & Top Performers

The 3rd Annual Prospects Sports College Showcase brought together a talented crop of athletes from across Texas and beyond for an elite evaluation event. College coaches and scouts were in attendance to get an up-close look at rising prospects through combine testing, position-specific drills, and intense 1-on-1 competition. The showcase was a platform for exposure and growth—and several players made the most of the opportunity.   Here's a comprehensive breakdown of the MVPs and top performers from this year's event:    One of the youngest standouts at the event, he showed his speed and power early in the camp during the drill portion. He moved with confidence and flashed upper-body strength with double-digit bench reps. When you cut on his film, he flashes as a running back with superb quickness, he runs with a low pad level and has good contact balance. He will be a name to know in Celina in the years to come.     Leonard's size alone demands attention, but his fluid movement and ability to anchor himself at engagement in pass protection and in run blocking elevated his performance. He's already caught the eye of schools like Ole Miss and UT Permian Basin, landing camp invites. With a massive frame and untapped potential, Leonard is one of the most intriguing under the radar linemen in the 2027 class.     Williams impressed all camp long. During 1v1s is where he really turned heads. He transitions smoothly in his backpedal, he has fluid hips combined with violent hands in press coverage, and this allowed him to make plays on the football. He's a high-IQ defender who knows how to position himself and make plays on the ball. His stat line of 58 tackles and 3 interceptions last fall backs up the tape. Williams holds offers from East Central Oklahoma and McPherson.     Koehne turned heads with his quick feet and aggressive mentality. As a two-way player in the fall, he made plays at both running back and safety, showing anticipation and awareness. He's a natural athlete who scored three TDs—including a pick-six in his 2024 season opener. He is a name to follow in Celina's talented program.     Golston is quick and shifty, running sharp routes and showing acceleration to create separation during the 1v1s. He made several difficult grabs in tight coverage and was explosive after the catch. He's a threat in space with natural instincts and body control.     Coleman stood out with his toughness and motor. He plays with great pad level and power through contact, anchoring against some of the event's best rushers. His quick feet and hand usage in drills displays he's a solid interior line prospect. Coaches need to get eyes on him this fall.     A fluid athlete with a hybrid skill set, Penso displayed great hip mobility, closing speed, and physicality during the 1v1s. He was sticky in coverage and disciplined in drills. With 70 tackles, 10 TFLs, and 2 sacks last season, he's a versatile and reliable defender who showed he can cover, blitz, and tackle in space.     Marker was everywhere. Whether lined up at receiver or in the defensive backfield, he made impact plays during the 1v1s. He flashed strong hands, toughness in traffic, and tight coverage skills. Marker walked away from the camp as one of the top all-around performers at the event.     A polished route runner with strong hands, Brown impressed in 1-on-1s by consistently gaining separation and making contested grabs during the 1v1s. Coming off a breakout season with 47 catches for 834 yards and 6 TDs, he showed that he has the skill set to be a playmaker. He holds an early offer from Midwestern State.     Matlock was disruptive off the edge. With an explosive first step and violent hands, he consistently disrupted passing lanes and beat offensive linemen with quickness and leverage. A standout for state champion Celina, he's already shown on film that he can attack offenses from all angles and his versatility on the field were several traits that stood out again during the showcase. His size and movement skills project him as a hybrid defender capable of playing OLB, nickel, or strong safety. Matlock is receiving interest from programs like SFA, Sam Houston, Kansas State, and ACU.     Anderson is downhill thumper with sideline-to-sideline range. Anderson put up 20 reps on the bench press and he moved with fluidity in drills. He posted 55 tackles, 3 TFLs, and a sack during Celina's title run. His strength, instincts, and size make him a legitimate next-level linebacker.     Mace was an absolute technician throughout the showcase. He showed raw strength by pumping out 25 reps at 185 pounds on the bench press and followed that up with dominant reps during 1-on-1s. He moved well laterally, maintained balance through contact, and used a stiff punch to neutralize defensive linemen. His blend of physicality, technique, and toughness was unmatched in the trenches.     Smith's length and size immediately stood out. He displayed solid footwork, balance, and hand strength throughout the 1v1 drills. His ability to move laterally and finish blocks makes him a high-upside offensive tackle to watch at Sherman this fall.     Ladd plays big, he's a heat-seeking missile on defense. He was one of the most active linebackers in drills and showed excellent coverage ability, breaking up multiple passes. A tackling machine in the fall with 156 tackles and 3 sacks, Ladd showed he's a playmaker that can attack his opponent from multiple angles defensively.     Bachman commanded attention from the opening reps. With clean mechanics, a live arm, and poise to deliver strikes in tight coverage, he consistently delivered accurate throws at all levels. His ability to place touch on the deep ball and drive throws outside the numbers gave him an edge during 1-on-1s. He showed command of the route tree and carried himself with the confidence of a seasoned leader, earning him top QB MVP honors.     Rodriguez plays with excellent leverage, he is fundamentally sound and he uses his weight, along with his strength to get control of defenders at engagement. He showed superb lateral quickness and a powerful, piston like leg drive in 1v1s at the showcase. As he continues to work on his game his skills will continue improve.
