The Prep Redzone 7v7 Circuit came to an end in Canton, Ohio with the first ever Prep Redzone National Championship tournament. Over 100 teams from 16 different states were represented this weekend and we've had wall to wall coverage of the event. In this breakdown, we're putting that spotlight on the 10U division. In case you missed it, we already covered the 10U champions from MSP Black earlier this week. Below, we take a look at six more players that stood out to us during the two days in Ohio!
Elijah Rice - 2032 Wide Receiver/Defensive Back - PSM (Indiana)
This breakdown is done in alphabetical order but you'd have a hard time finding a better player in the 10U division than Elijah Rice from PSM out of Indiana. PSM came up short in the 10U championship game but we'd make the argument that Rice was the best player in that game. He was an absolute monster on both sides of the ball. He caught multiple touchdowns on offense and had a timely interception on the defensive side of the ball. Rice did everything he could to keep his team in the game and they nearly pulled off the big win in overtime. But nevertheless, we have a feeling that Rice is going to be a name to know in Indiana in a few years. He was arguably the best player in the entire division.
K'Wan Cook Jr - 2032 Wide Receiver/Defensive Back - No Days Off Elite Green Wave (Ohio)
No Days Off Elite Green Wave is the only Ohio team represented on this breakdown and they were one of the first teams that we watched on Saturday, when games began. K'Wan Cook Jr ended up standing out to us on both sides of the ball as they rolled to a win and would end up going 2-1 on the day in pool play. The only loss came to the eventual champs of the tourney. Cook would play really good football on both sides of the ball. He made some strong plays and we came away impressed with his overall toughness. He made some really impressive catches in traffic but he also showcased his speed after the catch if he was able to catch a pass in space.
Michael Sordelet - 2034 Quarterback - PSM (Indiana)
When you look at the 10U division for any 7v7 tournament, you're typically dealing with 4th or 5th graders. PSM made it all the way to the championship game with a 3rd grader leading them at quarterback and he might have been one of the youngest players in the tourney but he didn't look like it with his play. Michael Sordelet was one of the top quarterbacks to watch in this division and that was clear from the first game that they played on Saturday. He immediately caught our attention and continued his strong play into the rest of the weekend. He helped them go 3-0 on Saturday and while they came up short in the title game, he should definitely hold his head high.
Suankeal Smith - 2032 Wide Receiver - Louisville Dream Team (Kentucky)
Louisville Dream Team went 2-3 this weekend but the three losses came to the two teams that played for the championship. This was still an impressive team to watch that had some young playmakers that flashed their explosive playmaking ability. One player that caught our attention on Saturday morning was Suankeal Smith at the wide receiver position. He was an absolute star and he was still making plays against the toughest competition in the division. That's what sold us on him as a top performer. If you're able to still make plays against the best of the best, you have our attention moving forward. Smith was at his best when he was making defenders miss after the catch.
Sylas Blust - 2033 Quarterback - Charles Johnson Charles Johnson OH Elite (Kentucky)
It was a tough weekend for Charles Johnson Charles Johnson OH Elite out of Kentucky but we were in person for their one win and it came at the beginning of the tournament. It was hard not to be impressed with the poise of quarterback Sylas Blust during that win. We also got a chance to see this team a handful of times throughout the rest of the weekend and while things didn't end up they way they'd want them on the scoreboard, we came away with a high opinion of Blust moving forward. He was putting the ball where his receivers could make plays. He was one of the more efficient quarterbacks in attendance for the 10U division.
Trevor Justice - 2033 Wide Receiver/Defensive Back - Charles Johnson Charles Johnson OH Elite (Kentucky)
As we mentioned with Blust, tough weekend for CJE as they went 1-3 on the tournament, with their one win coming in the opener of pool play on Saturday. But like we mentioned with Blust, they had some bright points throughout the two days. Wide receiver and defensive back Trevor Justice was another one of those bright spots while we were watching. In terms of overall playmakers in the 10U division, Justice was definitely up there from what we got a chance to watch on Saturday. First off, he immediately passed the eye test and would routinely have a height advantage against almost everyone. So in a jump ball scenario, one on one, Justice came down with it.
