[player_tooltip player_id='1102620' first='Micah' last='Fenney'] and the Norwood Young America Raiders made their first trip to the state tournament since 2014. According to Fenney, one of the reasons for their success is the bond he had with his teammates. As one of the top Minnesota recruits in the 2026 class, the junior is looking to find that same kind of bond with whatever college program he joins two years from now.

"The season was great," Fenney said. "Definitely a step up from my sophomore year. I felt more comfortable with our defensive schemes and stuff go. I loved playing with the great senior class we had. We made a good run in the playoffs."

Fenney was a standout on the defensive side of the ball.

"I was usually playing weak-side outside linebacker - rolled up most of the time. My role is to rush the passer ninety percent of the time and drop into coverage ten percent of the time. I thought I brought a lot of energy when we needed it and kept our spirits high."

The Raiders' athlete expects his role to expand next season.

"I was strictly defense as a junior," Fenney explained. "I played some offense during my sophomore year, and I plan to play some offense next year because we are graduating a lot of guys on offense."

"On defense, my physicality and speed are my strengths," the 6'5, 220-pound athlete continued. "I am going to be working on my footwork and flexibility (this offseason). I need to improve my bend and footwork as a pass rusher, dropping in coverage or possibly playing wide receiver or tight end to make sure my routes are crisp."

Feeney is a two-sport athlete.

"This winter, I played basketball. We had our ups and downs. We were a little over .500, and I had a lot of fun with my buddies. I play center. They like to call me 'The Garbage Man'. I get a lot of rebounds and score on put-backs."

The Garbage Man will be focusing on football this spring.

"This spring, I am going to be lifting and working at (a pro performance facility). Most of the time, I will be doing circuit training with high reps and low weight."

He is getting the most out of the recruiting experience.

"Recruiting has been fun," Feeney told prepredzonemn.com. "It has been great going to the different campuses to see what they have to offer. I have enjoyed it."

"I am looking for a brotherhood," Feeney – who enjoys hunting and fishing in his spare time - continued. "Coming from the team I am on now, everybody has always been close. No one is in their own little friend groups. Academics is always on top for me. I am a student first and an athlete second. I also want a good connection with my coaches – will they push me to be the best I can be? Can I rely on them?"

The Raiders' big man is being recruited as a defensive lineman. Feeney has three offers to date. Kansas, Augustana, and South Dakota have offered. Minnesota, South Dakota State, North Dakota State, and North Dakota have expressed interest.

"They like my physicality and my build – my length," Feeney concluded. "They like my aggression and high motor."
