So let me get real for a hot minute.

This is the most excited I have been for the combine and camp season since I started scouting in 2020.

I have made a plan earlier than ever on which camps I will attend, knowing that I am preparing to preview athletes heading to camps more than ever before.

However, I also feel I should take a moment to share an essential perspective on the camp season. The key to camp season is the athletes' gaining exposure and networking. Too often, athletes just show up, run the 40-yard dash, and focus on themselves.

If you are an athlete attending a camp and you don't take the time to talk with the coaches and scouts in attendance, you are not truly getting the full benefit of the camp.

If an athlete goes to a camp and does not make at least a couple of connections to players on other teams, they are not getting the full benefit of the camp.

One hello, one handshake, or one thank you can go way further than taking .01 seconds off your 40 time or completing one extra rep on the bench press.

Yet, also understand the money spent is an investment. With this crazy new NIL scene in college football, an athlete can't expect to make thousands and millions of dollars without spending some cash to get there.

It is important to pick the camps that make the most sense for your future plans and get the best return on your investment. A key thing to remember is that you get what you put in. Don't just show up and work out; show up and improve your stock.

I would much rather scout a padded practice or game. I want to see who separates themselves in a violent sport in high-pressure situations, but I also see the benefit of scouting camps. Scouting camps for me is all about meeting new athletes to write about. Having said that, realize that eyes are always on you. Someone will notice you taking a rep off or see you isolating yourself at camps.

Here is a report on five unranked athletes signed up for the camp at Baker University on June 3.

Profiles for each player have been created on Prep Redzone. Athletes are encouraged to claim their Prep Redzone profiles by using the following link https://prepredzone.com/prospect-index/

[player_tooltip player_id='1656510' first='Bryis' last='Alford'], QB/LB, 5'11”, 160, Baldwin, ‘27

Alford is a dual-threat quarterback. He can throw the deep ball, and I like his footwork. He is poised in the pocket and is a player I look forward to seeing in Baker. Alford also plays baseball for Baldwin.

[player_tooltip player_id='1656503' first='Jack' last='Boetel'], OL, 6'4”, 190, Ottawa, ‘26

Boetel is a big offensive lineman scheduled to participate in the Baker Camp. He plays right tackle for the Cyclones but could slide down to the guard position. Linemen are so fun to watch at combines mixed with skill players. They always stand out, which makes it easier for me to hone in on the big guys.

[player_tooltip player_id='1656511' first='Holden' last='Edelman'], DL, 6'2”, 240, Sabetha, ‘27

Edelman is in the Class of 2027. This could be a breakout event for him as far as getting him on the recruiting radar. He does not have any film on yet on HUDL or X, so it's smart to get out to be seen on the combine scene.

[player_tooltip player_id='1656506' first='Chase' last='Myers'], LB, 5'10”, 190, Ottawa, ‘26

Myers is the second member of the Ottawa Cyclones registered to be in attendance at Baker. Myers recorded 51 tackles and three quarterback sacks as a junior. He is coming off an injury-shorted season and will be looking to show off his skills.

[player_tooltip player_id='1656508' first='Malachi' last='Murph'], ATH, 6'0”, 195, Topeka High, ‘26

Murph is looking to make a splash, headed into his senior season. He is a dangerous athlete who can play safety or linebacker. He has excellent closing speed, a knack for the football, and brings the wood when he hits ball carriers.
