Best Since 2000: #10 Tipton Tigers

So we wanted to take a look back at the first 25 years of this century and countdown the top ten football programs across Oklahoma. Some were dominating long before the turn of the century. Others have really come on strong in the last 15 years. But for the rest of the month, we'll be putting the spotlight on one of the absolute best programs in the state since 2000. Today, we kick off the countdown with our #10 program since 2000, the Tipton Tigers!</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph {"fontSize":"medium"} --> <p class="has-medium-font-size"><strong>TIPTON TIGERS</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><em>8 State Championships (Tied For 5th Most Since 2000)<br>(2012, 2014, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2022, 2023, 2024)</em></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><em>2 Runner Ups <br>(2011, 2013)</em></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The Tipton Tigers come in at #10 in our top ten programs series and there is no argument that Tipton is one of those programs that has come on incredibly strong in the last 15 years. In fact, if this was a countdown for just the last 15 seasons, Tipton would be significantly higher in this countdown. The Tigers have played for the state championship ten times since 2000 and all ten appearances have come since 2011. The ten championship appearances is tied for the sixth most since the turn of the century.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>You could also certainly make the debate that Tipton is the best Class C program since 2000 but Shattuck would have a lot to say about that. Shattuck dominated Class C from 2000-2010 but ever since, the Tigers have been the kings of that jungle. There is no doubt that Tipton has been one of the best football programs in the state over the course of the last 15 years. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Before the turn of the century, Tipton had made it to just two state championship games and they won both appearances. Now, a state championship game feels like something that the Tipton fans go ahead and put on their calendar when the season kicks off in August. Tipton made it to the state title game in seven of eight seasons from 2011-2018 and they captured five gold balls during that stretch. They spent two seasons in Class B from 2020-2021 but were right back to Class C in 2022 and the domination continued.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Starting in 2022, Tipton would roll to three straight state championships. The most recent coming in December when they held off a furious rally from Timberlake to capture their eighth state title since 2010 and their tenth state championship in school history. A few things began during the 2022 season. The current championship run that Tipton finds themselves on and one of the longer winning streaks in state history. Tipton has gone 14-0 in each of the last three seasons and when they enter the 2025 season, they will have a 42-gam winning streak. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>With this project, we take a look back at all of the seasons from 2000 until 2024 but we also looked at records before 2000. And as we started looking back on Tipton over the course of the last 25 years, we started to pick up a couple of themes.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>First, they have absolutely thrived in Class C. Anytime they've moved up to Class B, they've been a pretty consistent playoff team but they haven't been a consistent contender. Then you see them in Class C and they are the kings of that mountain. The other theme has been the coach. Travis White took over the Tipton program a little over a decade ago, right as they were getting started on this run. Not only was he able to continue building what was already happening but he has continued to raise the bar of expectations for this program.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>And as we start looking ahead to the 2025 season, it's hard to argue that Tipton won't make another furious rally to get back to Edmond and compete for the state championship.
