Since 2006, the Land of 10,000 Lakes has put 13 TEs into the NFL ranks, hailing from all over the state and from a variety of collegiate programs, including two from the Missouri Valley Football Conference and two from the Division II NSIC ranks. South Dakota State - TEU of the FCS and also holding a foothold in the overall D1 ranks given the recent lineage of Dallas Goedert, Tucker Kraft, Mike Morgan, and Zach Heins - and a state with a strong lineage of standout TE prospects, blended together perfectly thanks to the commitment of Rogers High School's 6'4, 240 lb. junior [player_tooltip player_id='551426' first='Sawyer' last='Josewski']. The standout Royals TE, the fourth and final Minnesota 2026 to commit to the recent back-to-back national champion Jackrabbits this month, carved out some time to discuss with PrepRedzoneMN why he shut down his budding recruitment so early, family ties to the Jackrabbits, how SDSU earned his commitment, his favorite part about Brookings, and more.
Josewski's recruitment spelled S.D.S.U. all the way. Not only were the Jackrabbits the still-growing 6'4, 240-pounders first collegiate offer, but Josewski has family ties as well, setting the seeds for the eventual commitment well before the call from Head Coach Dan Jackson and TE coach Vince Benedetto rang with the offer. The Rogers product told PRzMN, "My sister goes to SDSU so I've been around campus and to a few games, so I already knew I loved the culture of Brookings. Coach Benedetto and I seem to have a really good connection, which was a huge part of it. Matter of fact the whole coaching staff seemed really nice and welcoming. After they offered me, I got a handwritten letter from every coach, which I thought was cool." You have to like the personal touch from the new coaching staff, and Josewski made sure to add that, "I want to contribute, I want to play, and I don't want to deal with the transfer portal and I want a chance at the NFL. I actually decided SDSU was my first choice two days prior to them offering."

When you know, you know, but it wasn't for a lack of attention for the sought-after Rogers TE. Josewski told PRzMN, " I was humbled by the interest from other coaches. A few Big 10 schools I have been in contact with, most compelling was Northwestern. Also had some great conversations with Ivy League schools, Wyoming and nearly all of the Missouri Valley teams. But as you know, I am not an offer collector, I just want to play football, and I do not like leading coaches on." Josewski also added that, "I knew right when SDSU offered me that's where home was going to be. If SDSU didn't offer me, then I was confident enough in my skills that I would have earned an offer at their camp in June."

Before the good times get going in Brookings, however, Josewski and his Royals teammates have a big 2025 ahead of them, making the jump to Big School 6A for the first time, which Josewski noted " is gonna be a great challenge, but I have faith that our head coach Marc Franz will have us prepared." The move means a lot to the Royals program, who have a strong culture and a hometown fully backing their efforts, Josewski, a versatile presence on the gridiron who fought through some tough nagging injuries in 2024, said that, "Representing Rogers means a lot to me, it's where I have grown up my whole life. When I am under those Friday night lights with some of my best friends, and I look up in the stands, it feels like the whole town is behind me. This was also a huge part of my commitment since I got that same feeling in Brookings." This one seems like a match made in heaven. Jackrabbit fans: keep an eye out for yet another TEU-worthy Upper Midwest prospect coming into Brookings hot.
