Spring practice is right around the corner for Louisiana high school football teams, but many prospects around the state have remained active throughout the four-plus months since their past season ended.

The first quarter of the year is always busy with offseason workouts, travel 7-on-7 and recruiting camp circuits.

There's no way to cover all bases on every player who's raised his stock or shown progress, but here's a look at six rising juniors, to name a few, who have clearly been effective with their spring work.

[player_tooltip player_id='934555' first='Braylon' last='Calais'] — 6-3, 200 WR/ATH — Cecilia

The versatile athlete had a heck of a sophomore season to help highlight the Bulldogs' first state-championship run since 1995. Calais worked primarily at running back, safety and return specialist during the fall, but he continues to use spring 7-on-7 opportunities to showcase his impressive receiving skillset downfield and making tough contested catches.

[player_tooltip player_id='739753' first='Landon' last='Johnson'] — 6-1, 175 ATH/DB — Madison Prep

Another versatile standout already early in his career, Johnson has seen action at quarterback, receiver and defensive back on both Friday nights in the fall and 7-on-7 weekends this spring. And, at the corner position where he appears most likely to project at the next level, he has consistently shown the length, instincts, confidence and ball skills to match up with any receiver lined up across from him. Vanderbilt recently extended his first offer.

[player_tooltip player_id='1610246' first='Trey' last='Martin'] — 5-11, 185 DB/ATH — Franklin Parish

The Patriots' two-way standout had a heck of a spring on the 7-on-7 circuit, playing safety and snatching an interception or two seemingly every tournament. He also saw his recruiting process kick off in the meantime, including earning his first offer from Louisiana Tech in February.

[player_tooltip player_id='723579' first='Easton' last='Royal'] — 5-11, 185 WR/ATH — Brother Martin

The Crusaders' fast-rising prospect continued to put his speed on display this spring in track, camp and 7-on-7 settings with an eye-popping 10.38-second 100-meter performance already during track season that repeatedly showed up on breakaway runs after catches on the 7-on-7 circuit.

[player_tooltip player_id='1614578' first='John' last='Walker V'] — 6-1, 175 WR/ATH — Plaquemine

Walker had a strong sophomore campaign this fall with 38 catches for 743 yards and 13 touchdowns and carried that momentum right into 7-on-7 action with fresh highlights seemingly every couple weeks with a knack for creating separation around the goal line and enough speed to get upfield for yards after the catch.

[player_tooltip player_id='465282' first='Malachi' last='Zeigler'] — 6-3, 200 QB — Benton

A pair of 2027 quarterbacks had largely headlined Louisiana's talented class at the position, including all-state selections in the fall. But Zeigler used opportunities on camp circuit to continue to strengthen his case in that top tier as he earned recognition among top performers in his Under Armour and Elite 11 stops.
