As we move into the spring sports season, I figured it was time to check in on some of Prepredzonemn.com's top-ranked athletes from the class of 2026. The first athlete I am featuring is Triton athlete [player_tooltip player_id='1255902' first='Pierce' last='Petersohn'].

I was able to watch Petersohn once last year in the Class 2A state quarterfinals. The Cobras led late into the fourth quarter, but a Gophers touchdown inside of two minutes gave Chatfield a thrilling 23-22 victory. The last minute touchdown ended Triton's season with an 8-3 record.

Petersohn threw two touchdown passes in that game and nearly led a game-winning touchdown drive. He led the offense deep into Chatfield territory before they ran out of time.

Looking back - here were my observations of the junior in that game.

Petersohn has excellent size for the quarterback position and showed he will be a force for the Cobras next season as they try to get back to the state tournament. He made a pair of strong throws to the outside to pick up two first downs. He showed good mobility and ability to throw on the run when he rolled out to his right and threw a strike down the sidelines on fourth and five for 33 yards. His quick release on a slant picks up a first down to get the offense off their own goal line. Petersohn showed good arm strength when he hit a deep ball down the sidelines for 42 yards. He showed speed to the corner when he ran for a first down. After a short touchdown pass, he rolled out for another completion on the sidelines. He capped off his night with a fade into the end zone for an 18-yard touchdown. He is also the team's punter and uncorked a 48-yard punt.

"I think the season went well for me," Petersohn said, "but wins and losses matter more than individual stats for me."

His individual stats were impressive. He threw seventeen touchdown passes and nearly picked off more passes (three) – as a free safety - than he threw (four). Petersohn accounted for almost 2000 all-purpose yards and added nine rushing touchdowns.

"I think my strengths are that I'm smart, fast, and a good teammate," Petersohn said.

A three-sport athlete, the junior helped the Cobras' basketball team to a 14-1 conference record. With one more year to go, Petersohn has already set the career scoring record at Triton. He is ranked 29th in the state by Prephoops.com. This spring, he competes in track and field and plays AAU basketball.

Petersohn still makes time to improve his game on the football field.

"I am working on continuing on my QB skills. I am focusing on finding tendencies on the offensive and defensive sides of the ball."

Football appears to be his route to major college athletics.

"Recruiting has been good," Petersohn said. "I've been recruited as a quarterback, tight end, linebacker, wide receiver, and safety. Most of the schools see me as either a tight end or linebacker."

The junior already has offers from all over the country, including Penn State, Duke, Kansas State, Iowa, Northwestern, North Dakota State, Minnesota, North Dakota, and Iowa State.

"Most of the schools who have offered me," Petersohn concluded, "like my intangibles, academics, and how I carry myself."
