FLORENCE | Standing around before the start of the Class of 2027 and 2028 Combine on Sunday afternoon at West Florence High School, a bystander mentioned and I'm paraphrasing here, “Look at [player_tooltip player_id='840548' first='Tre' last='Howard']. So unassuming now, but when he starts throwing the ball, he will be like an assassin.”

It might not have been that drastic, but Howard did stand out among the 127 players that showed up to be tested and run through individual skills among the rising juniors and sophomores in the state.

Howard, who garnered MVP honors for his efforts, was appreciative of the opportunity.

“Being about to come out and throw the ball and compete with everybody out here, it makes every day special,” Hoard said. “Winning the MVP shows the hard work I've been putting in, lifting going to track and running and throwing with the guys and my quarterback coach.”

Here is the list of underclassmen award winners from West Florence on Sunday afternoon.

MVP: [player_tooltip player_id='840548' first='Tre' last='Howard'] QB, Ridge View

There was an abundance of talent on display on Sunday but Howard commanded the attention of everyone around him. The Class of 2027 QB checked in at 5-foot-9, 155 pounds but when he threw the ball, he was much larger than that. He hit receivers in stride and showed off a strong arm in all the individual and 1-on-1 work. He clocked well in the 40 (4.69) and Pro Shuttle (4.31) with a 33.4 vertical job, 106 on the broad jump and nine reps off 185 pounds on the bench. His leadership, accuracy and arm strength set him apart from most.

Leadership Award: Jaiden Williams-Green OL, Darlington

Speaking of Leadership, the 5-foot-11, 361-pound, Class of 2027 offensive lineman Williams-Green commanded it from the time he checked in. He came in the gates singing and in a jovial mood, portraying that same energy to everyone around him. He was always the first to volunteer for something and looked well in the 1-on-1 battles with the defensive line.

Fastest 40-yard Dash: [player_tooltip player_id='1664635' first='Myles' last='Bryant'] WR, Westwood

The Redhawks Class of 2027 wide receiver showed a competitive spirit and a blazing time in the 40, where he clocked in an afternoon best of 4.43. That speed helped the 5-foot-10, 151-pounder show great separation ability in passing drills. He used his hands well and ran routes under control, another aspect to his agility. He added a more than respectable 4.42 in the Pro Shuttle. All that should be a strength with first-year coach Stephen Burris coming in.

Fastest Pro Shuttle/Offensive Skill Award: [player_tooltip player_id='1078102' first='Darius' last='Carter'] WR, Ridge View

I personally had to pull Carter aside during 1-on-1 drills to find out more information about him. Nobody could cover him, and he created so much separation, it wasn't even close. He's a precise route-runner and catches everything that comes close. We're not sure, but the 4.15 that he put up in the Pro Shuttle might be a Combine record. He also had a 34.8 Vertical and 107 broad jump. His stock should continue to rise with Howard at quarterback and the Blazers ability to be an elite passing team.

Best Bench Press/Defensive Combo Award: [player_tooltip player_id='262172' first='Bubba' last='Alexander'] LB, Hammond

The Hammond product had one of the more impactful days with him being one of three players to win two awards each. The 5-foot-9, 199 pound Class of 2027 linebacker was in the top of a lot of statistical categories and he had Combine-best 36 reps on the bench press (185 pounds). But what stood out even more was his 40-time of 4.5 (third best of the afternoon), 108 on the broad jump, 35.1 on the vertical and 4.39 in the Pro Shuttle. He also showed he could cover well and if he did get out of place on a play, he showed quick recovery time and smooth hips in getting back into place.

Best Vertical/Best Broad Jump: [player_tooltip player_id='1615072' first='Levar' last='Gilchrist'] DB, South Aiken

Let's get to the numbers really quick – the 5-foot-10, 166-pound Class of 2028 won both the broad jump (121 inches) and the vertical (39.7). The vertical number was so incredible, the coaches running the station made Gilchrist jump on the second pad just to confirm the number. Even with those impressive numbers, I thought Gilchrist showed the most promise in individual drills. He covered everyone in front of him and showed great athleticism when he deflected a pass along the sideline and came down with the interception. He wasn't afraid of a challenge against the talented group of receivers that were on hand.

Top Offensive Lineman: Triston Diggs OL, Carvers Bay

It's very little wonder that Diggs came away with this award. He shined in the individual work against the defensive linemen. The 5-foot-11, 259-pound rising junior showed a lot of power (he benched 185 pounds 17 times) and if he got his hands in good position, the battle was over, and Diggs was going to win it. He has great technique, but his biggest characteristic is his ability to maul a defender.

Top Offensive Skill: [player_tooltip player_id='1149057' first='Spencer' last='Bobian'] RB, Ridge View

There's a reason Bobian became one of the key weapons for Ridge View last season. He finished just shy of 1,000 yards and averaged 25 yards on his four receptions, but he showed pass-catching could increase in the coming two years. He ran great routes and showed great pass-catching ability on Sunday. He was one of the stronger skill position players with 13 reps on the bench and added a 4.26 in the Pro Shuttle. That gives the 5-foot-6, 169-pound Class of 2027 back a great change of direction on a compact frame.

Top Defensive Lineman: Terrance Brown DL, Myrtle Beach

Let's just say Brown was a handful to control in a lot of the individual work. He checked in at 5-foot-5, 250 pounds and was a menace to block. He's strong (21 reps on the bench) and with a low center of gravity, he was difficult to move when he established a solid base. He will be a key cog to Mrytle Beach's defensive front the next two seasons.

Top Defensive Skill: [player_tooltip player_id='1647592' first='Corey' last='Gleaton'] DB, Gray Collegiate

The 5-foot-7, 144-pound Class of 2027 defensive back had an all-around solid day. He deflected a couple of passes in individual drills and blanketed a lot of the receivers. Despite his height, he still had a 75-inch wingspan to go along with a 35.5 vertical and 112 broad jump that will help against taller receivers. He clocked in at 4.64 in the 40 and added a 4.39 in the Pro Shuttle. His numbers and 1-on-1 ability certainly made him one of the stock risers coming out of this Combine.
