<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>It was evident from the start of the morning that San Antonio was poised to have a well-deserved showcase in the city. The weather called for a 40% chance of rain, but the showcase went on without a hitch. As the athletes showed up and started stretching, I noticed a few known athletes from the area. There were some newcomers that I truly appreciated seeing as well. Once the testing and drills started it was shown that these athletes were hungry for exposure. When it was all said and done, the MVPs let their talent do the talking. He displayed all the tools of an upperclassman at the showcase. He has decent size for an 8th-grader (5'11 167) and ran a hand-timed 4.75 in the 40-yard dash. When scouting him, the boxes he checks off are good body control, adjusts, and tracks the the ball very well in the air. The route running, weight drop, and being able to get separation are years ahead of his age. He was able to recognize routes and did a good job covering quick running backs and receivers. Instincts paired with vision and good hips translated into multiple pass break-ups. Gonna be an interesting season watching this young man blossom next season.
