[player_tooltip player_id='350336' first='Luke' last='Van Dyke'] (@LukeVanDyke2), Skutt Catholic - 6'0" 210 lbs

The leader of one of the top defensive units in Class B, [player_tooltip player_id='350336' first='Luke' last='Van Dyke'], and the Sky Hawks fully broke through in 2024 as everything seemed to gel en route to the state championship. Luke is a smart and instinctive linebacker who does a great job holding down the middle of the field. Luke sees the field very well and trusts his reads as he fires off towards the ball. Van Dyke finished his senior campaign with 90 tackles, 5 TFLs, a sack, two interceptions (one pick-six), a fumble recovery, and a blocked kick. Great frame for the next level at 6'0" and 210 pounds, with the quickness to cover from sideline to sideline. Several teams have taken notice since already with offers from Hastings College, Midland, Mount Marty, Nebraska Wesleyan, and Graceland. Definitely a player coaches should be looking at!

An unfortunate injury cut Dylan's season down to only four games, but there's no question the impact he had when he was on the field. Kuhl tallied 24 tackles, 7.5 TFLs, a sack, and two interceptions in those four games. Since earning a starting role last season, Dylan has been one of the top playmaking linebackers in the state. He has a big nose for creating turnovers, whether interceptions or forced fumbles and has shown that if he can take the ball away, he'll find a way to take it back for a score with four defensive touchdowns in a season and a half. There is a lot of upside at safety or a hybrid of the two, but nonetheless, he brings value to the field no matter where he's at.

One of the best assets a player can have is consistency, which is what Bennington's [player_tooltip player_id='546019' first='Layne' last='Boever'] brings to the table. Layne had another highly productive season where he tallied 96 tackles, four TFLs, a forced fumble, a fumble return for a touchdown, and an interception returned for a touchdown. An absolute thumper in the middle of the field with great field vision and can fill his gaps effectively. One very underrated aspect of Layne's game is his pass coverage, playing with fluid hips and a quick change of direction that lets him pick up any pass catchers trying to go over the middle of the defense. He has great hands and ball skills, as shown by his 11 PBUs, displaying his aggressiveness at the catch point. Layne has an offer from Dordt but will hopefully gain more ground in the upcoming weeks leading up to signing day.

A shocker to see no reported offers for Elkhorn South's [player_tooltip player_id='319552' first='Devin' last='Meier'] who had a tremendous final season with the Storm. Meier led the team in tackles with 86 total tackles, 11 TFLs, five sacks, and a fumble recovery. Meier is an aggressive linebacker who is very physical at the point of attack and has a tireless pursuit. At outside linebacker, Devin does a great job setting the edge against the run game while finding ways to shuffle along the line of scrimmage, evading blockers before firing his gap to map a stop behind the LOS. He sees the field very well and flows to the ball naturally. Meier also showed the athleticism to pick up tight ends and RBs in coverage. Jump on this guy quick!

Another solid thumper you can plug and play in the middle of your defense. Millard North's [player_tooltip player_id='318997' first='Spencer' last='Phillips'] has proven to be a reliable, sound linebacker who is at his best defending the run where he can put a hat on a hat and go attack the ball. He's gap sound as a defender and shows effective hand usage and strength to disengage from blockers at the line of scrimmage. Spencer ended the season as the Mustang's leading tackler with 81 stops and 2 TFLs. Surprisingly, Spencer is still holding out for his first offer which I believe will come soon as teams continue to fill their boards.

Omaha Westview's [player_tooltip player_id='1059145' first='Grant' last='Ryan'] is a player who has picked up steam on the recruiting trail after a monster senior campaign. Ryan led Class A in total tackles with 111 stops and 19 TFLs while helping the Wolverines to the first playoff appearance in the young program's history. Ryan plays in the highest gear with a non-stop motor that keeps him in pursuit from snap to whistle and a natural flow to the ball. Grant's quick first step helps him shoot his gaps like a rocket, and he has the closing speed to cut down the space between himself and the ball carrier. Ryan holds offers from Wayne State, Peru State, Morningside, and Midland.

Here's another 'backer who was having a promising season before injury cut it short. Lincoln Southeast's [player_tooltip player_id='545274' first='Zayvion' last='Campbell'] is a very intriguing prospect who has flashed massive upside but could only play in five games in his senior season, where he still posted an impressive 40 tackles and an interception returned for a touchdown. We have him listed as an outside linebacker, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him as a box safety who can also slide over to the slot. He works well going downhill as he does when dropping back into coverage, displaying a good football IQ that helps him make good reads and finds him near the ball consistently. Hidden gem prospect that would be a steal at this point!
