Game Changers: Evaluating Top Performers in Maryland Class 1A

Prep Redzone Maryland's Ed O'Brien chose five prospects from Maryland's 1A Classification to evaluate for this article. All of these prospects earned All-State recognition in Class 1A for their performance during the 2024 season.   Note: All prospects in this article are Class of 2026 recruits.   Julian Ringgold | Harve de Grace | 5-10 | 180 | Quarterback   Julian Ringgold's highlights include several plays in which he is composed under pressure, makes good decisions, and helps facilitate explosive plays. He also can stay composed when the pocket collapses and still deliver precise passes.   Ringgold's ability to evade defenders and extend plays stands out in multiple instances. On one play, with the ball at midfield, he sidestepped a rusher, rolled to his right, and delivered a 21-yard strike to a receiver who adjusted to his movement. Similarly, on another play from his 22-yard line, he avoided 2-3 would-be tacklers in a crowded pocket, ultimately finding his receiver for a 35-plus yard gain.   Ringgold's arm talent and timing are equally impressive. On a deep pass from his 34-yard line, he calmly dropped back, unleashed a perfect throw down the sideline, and hit his receiver in stride, setting up a long touchdown. Another standout moment came on a designed rollout, where he used the extra time to launch a 45-plus-yard throw in the air, resulting in a 50-plus-yard gain. These plays showcased his arm strength and ability to execute high-difficulty throws precisely.   Ringgold's ability to progress through reads and make smart decisions also stood out in a few plays. After not finding an option to his left on one play, he smoothly scanned the field and delivered a strike to an open receiver.   There are a few things that could help Ringgold improve as a quarterback. While his ability to extend plays is impressive, developing a quicker trigger when the initial read is open can make him more efficient. I'd like to see more passes between the hashes on his highlights. It would show even more versatility in his passing game.   [player_tooltip player_id='1611565' first='Noah' last='House'] – Fort Hill | 6-0 | 205 | Linebacker   [player_tooltip player_id='1611565' first='Noah' last='House'] is a versatile and athletic standout linebacker for Fort Hill High School. At 6-0 and 205 pounds, House excels in both run defense and pass coverage, making him a well-rounded defensive presence.   In one notable play, lined up as a middle linebacker, House showcased his explosiveness by timing the snap perfectly, shooting the inside gap, and tackling the quarterback in the end zone for a safety. In another play, he was left outside Linebacker, taking on the offensive tackle and the running back in pass protection. He used his power to shed both blockers and pressured the quarterback into throwing an interception. These plays showed House's ability to wreak havoc on offenses behind the line of scrimmage.   House has solid pass coverage abilities, which stand out on film. While not often challenged downfield, he excels in covering his area, demonstrating quick reaction times and a solid understanding of zone responsibilities. House's fluidity and lateral quickness allow him to stay with receivers and break on passes effectively, a trait not always seen in linebackers of his size. His flexibility to play inside and outside Linebacker adds to his value, making him a versatile weapon in any defensive scheme.   He lined up as an inside linebacker on the right side on one play and showed equal prowess on running plays. Once the play began, House attacked the gap, chased down the running back in the backfield, and prevented an outside run. Another impressive play shows him reading his keys after the snap as a middle linebacker and navigating traffic to make the tackle at the line of scrimmage.   [player_tooltip player_id='1611565' first='Noah' last='House'] is a dynamic, well-rounded linebacker who impacts the game at every level. His combination of physicality, instinct, and technique makes him a standout performer on both run and pass plays. House's versatility as a linebacker should make him an attractive recruit for college coaches.     Anthony Hall | Joppatowne | 5-7 | 165 | Running Back   Standing at 5'7” and 165 pounds, Anthony Hall from Joppatowne is a running back whose electrifying play makes him a standout performer on the field. What Hall lacks in size, he makes up for with speed, agility, and an ability to turn any play into a scoring opportunity. From his impressive long speed to his ability to weave through defenders, Hall thrives in space and quickly makes defenders miss.   One of Hall's defining traits is his shiftiness. His ability to cut on a dime is on full display in plays where he seemingly changes direction effortlessly, leaving defenders unable to get their hands on him. In one highlight, Hall took a handoff near his 26-yard line, countered to the right, and then quickly reversed field, slicing through traffic with precision before racing nearly the entire field length. Though he was caught at the opponent's 4-yard line, the run showcased his vision, quick decision-making, and elusiveness.   Speed is another hallmark of Hall's game. When given space, he accelerates quickly and has a second gear that makes it difficult for him to catch. In one memorable play from the opponent's 46-yard line, Hall turned what seemed like a dead-end run behind the line of scrimmage into a 46-yard touchdown. After dancing in the backfield and reversing course, he found the edge, turned the corner, and sprinted downfield, cutting inside a wide receiver's block before finishing the run in the end zone.   Hall's smaller stature works to his advantage in specific scenarios. At 5'7”, he uses his size to hide behind his offensive linemen, making it difficult for defenders to track him until it's too late. In another instance, starting from his 40-yard line, Hall slipped through the line of scrimmage, cut outside, and raced untouched down the sideline for a touchdown, even cutting back on two defenders at the 5-yard line for good measure. He has that knack for finding daylight and exploiting any opening the defensive gives him.   However, Hall's game isn't without its challenges. His reliance on shifty running sometimes results in hesitation behind the line of scrimmage. He occasionally dances too long while looking for the perfect hole to exploit, allowing defenders to close in. His slight frame may make recruiting him as a running back at the next level more challenging. While Hall has shown the ability to slip through would-be tacklers, his ability to consistently power through contact could be questioned when facing bigger, stronger defenders.   Despite these areas for growth, Anthony Hall's talent and playmaking ability are undeniable. His vision, agility, and speed make him a constant threat to opposing defenses. If he can refine his decision-making and prove his durability against more physical competition, Hall has the potential to be a game-changing weapon for any team. For now, he's a must-watch player who brings excitement to every snap.   Dominic Wilkins | SEED | 5-10 | 185 | Running Back   Dominic Wilkins displays the skill set of a dynamic running back with an intriguing combination of patience, vision, and smooth running ability.   One of Wilkins' standout traits is his patience as a runner. He doesn't rush into clogged lanes but waits for the play to develop, allowing his offensive line to set up blocks. This ability is shown in a play from his highlights where he runs for a 60-plus-yard touchdown. Wilkins displayed excellent vision, cutting back to the right and taking advantage of an open lane. His agility and ability to turn the corner make him a significant threat on the outside. Another play on his highlights, a 55-yard touchdown, shows his ability to break tackles and fight through contact, showing toughness and determination.   Dominic Wilkins is an exciting running back with the tools to be a game-changer, especially on plays that allow him to use his patience, vision, and ability to bounce outside. He shines in space and shows promise as a pass-catcher, making him a versatile asset.   Despite his many strengths, Wilkins has areas that need improvement. His top-end speed, or "second gear," is a notable limitation. On his 75-yard run, he was caught from behind, suggesting that his long speed isn't at an elite level. This lack of breakaway speed could limit his ability to turn significant gains into touchdowns against faster defenders at higher levels of competition. Working on his quickness and speed will help him become more explosive.   [player_tooltip player_id='1698082' first='Miles' last='Miller'] | Harve de Grace | 5-9 | 170 | Wide Receiver   [player_tooltip player_id='1698082' first='Miles' last='Miller'], a 5'9”, 170-pound wide receiver from Havre de Grace, may not have prototypical size, but his game-changing ability and skillset command attention. Whether lined up as a Y or Z receiver, Miller can create separation, exploit defensive schemes and make big plays stand out.   In one highlight play, starting deep in his territory on the 21-yard line, Miller lined up as the Y receiver and ran a sharp post route. Using his route-running savvy, he stemmed the defensive back outside before cutting inside, leaving the defender struggling to transition. The result? A 35-plus yard reception in stride, demonstrating Miller's explosiveness and ability to manipulate coverage with footwork and sharp breaks.     Miller's awareness of defensive schemes was evident on a touchdown play from the opponent's 19-yard line. Lined up as the Z receiver, he ran a seam route against zone coverage. Miller worked his way behind the linebacker and into a soft spot in the coverage, catching the ball in stride for a touchdown. That showed great timing between him and his quarterback.   Another standout play demonstrated Miller's versatility and open-field ability. On the opponent's 48-yard line, he caught a bubble screen as the Z receiver. With solid blocking in front of him, Miller quickly ran downfield and used his speed to dart down the right sideline for a touchdown. His vision and his quickness on this play made this routine play a scoring opportunity.   Miller's route-running intelligence showed on a play that started on his 40-yard line. He ran a fade route with a hesitation move at the 5-yard mark. This subtle adjustment caused the defensive back to hesitate, leaving Miller wide open for an easy touchdown.     That said, there are areas where Miller can improve. At 5'9” and 170 pounds, he may struggle against more physical defenders at higher levels of competition. I'd also like to see how he fares against press coverage. That's something he most likely doesn't see during the season.
