We've been digging into video highlights of 2028 class members here at Prep Redzone Iowa since last season kicked off. It led us to this week's rankings release for the cycle.

A Top 12 emerged through the process for these initial ratings. Plenty of other student-athletes built their foundations for future success as ninth-graders this past Fall.

It's important to point out that this group will grow significantly from its current 65 members. We have 645 student-athletes ranked in our '25 Class. There are more than 400 guys in the '26 ratings.

Here's a look at players on our Watch List poised for big off-seasons on the 7-on-7 and camp circuits, leading to a number next to their names in a future updates:

Bollers comes from good blood lines. His father played football at Iowa, and his older brother just finished up his junior season at Cal. [player_tooltip player_id='1596516' first='Texton' last='Bollers'] has a bright future in football but the baseball diamond could be his path. Texton operated as CCA's freshman team quarterback last season, recording 19 touchdowns. Shortly into his freshman video highlights, we can see potential on both sides of the ball. He picks off a pass and takes it to the house playing linebacker on the opening clip. He then runs for a touchdown playing quarterback in Clip 2. The elders may argue with me, but Texton looks like the best athlete of the Bollers bunch. And that's saying something,

Football takes a backseat to Gary's love of basketball, it would appear, but the talented ninth-grader shouldn't close the door on the gridiron as it relates to his future. He hauled in 24 passes for 236 yards and two touchdowns, intercepted a ball on defense and returned a kick for a score. Gary is a dynamic athlete with speed and quick-twitch traits that could lead to a high level of success at multiple positions. Hopefully Gary mixes in football camps with his AAU basketball this spring and summer.

Hall looks to be among the next wave of talented, versatile athletes they develop at Valley. He shined as the starting quarterback on the freshman team in 2024, also lining up at cornerback. Hall flashed upside on both sides of the ball. He's a true dual-threat quarterback that can gash teams with designed runs or when the play breaks down. Hall's movements look fluid when set up in the secondary, where he also shows good instincts.

Norwalk is on a run of developing versatile athletes capable of contributing in multiple areas. Iverson looks like he can help keep the trend going. As we can see watching his freshman highlight video, he delivered as a ninth-grade safety with two interceptions and 12 solo tackles. Iverson diagnoses plays well and gets to the ball quickly. His skill set works on offense, too. Don't be surprised to see his contributions increase on that side of the ball and interest from the next level pick up with it.

Anytime a freshman finds his way on the field for Southeast Polk's varsity, it's wise to take notice. Trunnel contributed to the Rams' four-peat in 5A this past Fall. He caught a touchdown pass and returned a kick 22 yards for the varsity. He spent most of his ninth-grade season shining on the junior varsity. You can watch his exploits on both prep levels in his 2024 highlights. Trunnel can ding defenses running through the middle or streaking down the outside. He's smooth in his routes, getting in and out of breaks quickly.

Monk forced his way into the defensive line rotation as a freshman on a 5A playoff team. It likely foreshadowed big things to come for a guy that racked up 19 solo tackles and delivered a Pick-6 as a ninth-grader. College scouts watching his freshman film can appreciate the physicality with which he already plays. Monk is a high-motor guy with burst, usually getting blockers on their heels before they have a chance to fully engage. He plays with his head up and his eyes on the ball.
