As we enter a new high school football off-season in the state of Kentucky, we are in a new round of rankings updates. The most recent class to be updated is the class of 2027. With this update being officially posted, I will be taking the next couple weeks or so to break our rankings down by position. After already covering the offensive side of the ball, I have now turned my attention to the defensive side of the ball. With the defensive line, edge defenders, and linebackers already being taken care of, here are our top defensive backs in the class of 2027 in the state of Kentucky!

[player_tooltip player_id='378835' first='Jordan' last='Haskins'] continued to establish himself as one of the top overall players in the state in his class as a sophomore. Haskins lines up at safety where he is very impressive in pass coverage. He does a great job of dropping into coverage and reading the quarterback and receivers. When the ball is in the air, Haskins is a true ballhawk, reacting with perfect timing and covering ground quickly to make a play on the ball. He finished this past season with four interceptions in 12 games. Jordan also showed the ability to come downhill and provide support against the run, finishing the year with 80 tackles and one tackle for loss. He also made an impact on offense, catching 13 passes for 221 yards and two touchdowns, while also scoring three rushing touchdowns. Haskins currently holds multiple Power 4/Division I offers and I expect more to come his way as he is a high-caliber defensive back prospect.

[player_tooltip player_id='1217741' first='Allen' last='Evans IV'] is another high-caliber 2027 defensive back who continued to stand out this past season. Evans lines up at corner where he is very impressive in man coverage. He does a great job of opening up and running with opposing receivers to mirror their routes with ease. When the ball is thrown his way, he does a great job of reacting with perfect timing and fighting across the receiver's body to break up the pass. He finished his sophomore year with 11 pass breakups in 15 games. Evans also showed the ability to make plays against the run, finishing the year with 24 tackles and 2.5 tackles for loss. Allen currently holds offers from Kentucky and Louisville, and I expect more to come his way as he has the talent to play for a Power 4 program.

[player_tooltip player_id='1314812' first='Cionne' last='Conn'] is a player who caught my attention this past season and continued to impress during his sophomore year. Conn lines up at safety where he is very reliable in coverage. He does a great job of reading the play and flowing through coverage to put himself in a position to make a play on the ball. When the ball is thrown his way, he has shown impressive ball skills, coming away with two interceptions in 13 games this past season. Conn also showed the ability to fill the lane and provide support against the run, finishing the year with 38 tackles and two tackles for loss. He also finished the season with half a sack. Cionne currently holds an offer from Eastern Kentucky and I can see more coming his way as he continues to develop.

[player_tooltip player_id='1200643' first='Cohen' last='Finley'] is a player who has been high on our radar for a while now and continued to stand out this past season. Finley lines up at safety where he has proven to be reliable in pass coverage. He does a great job of reading route combinations and the quarterback then breaking on the ball with perfect timing to make a play once it is in the air. Cohen finished his sophomore year with four interceptions in 13 games, returning one of them for a touchdown. He also finished the season with 65 tackles and one tackle for loss, and played a role on offense, catching 10 passes for 208 yards and two touchdowns. Cohen doesn't currently hold any offers but he should be a player to keep an eye on over the next couple seasons.

To wrap up our top five defensive backs in the class of 2027 in the state of Kentucky, I have [player_tooltip player_id='1610695' first='Fred' last='Carson']. Fred lines up at corner where he is very reliable in zone coverage. He does a great job of dropping into his zone and read route combinations. When the ball is thrown his way, he does a great job of breaking on the ball with perfect timing to make a play. He finished this past season with four interceptions in 12 games, returning two of them for touchdowns. Carson also finished the year with 45 tackles, one tackle for loss, and two sacks. He also made an impact on offense, catching 25 passes for 351 yards and 5 touchdowns, and returned one kickoff return for a touchdown. Fred doesn't currently hold any offers but he is a player who college coaches should have on their radar heading into his junior year.
