In scouting quarterbacks, it is interesting to see how the young guns fine-tune their game year over year as they mature and get experienced in their respective offensive systems.

Over the years I have noticed when comparing underclassmen quarterbacks to their senior counterparts, there are areas where experience and maturity make a difference.

In taking a closer look at QB numbers, there are three stats I look at to give me a ballpark idea on the maturation level of their game: 1) higher completion percentages; 2) fewer interceptions; and 3) higher passer ratings.

Where most sophomore-junior QB's have completion percentages in the low-to-mid-50% range (or less), the elite seniors are usually in the 63-68+% range (or higher). Seniors also usually scale back their interceptions to single digits and have passer ratings in the 120+ range (reminder: anything above 108 is considered elite).

And, obviously, there are numerous factors that go into the maturity of a high school quarterback's game, so these stats are not considered to be mutually exclusive indicators of game maturity, but more like key data points to consider in the evaluation process.

There are a few of the young gunslingers below who are already approaching mature numbers, but there are always fine-tuning opportunities. In this report we will take a look at five QB's from the class of 2027 who are not highly ranked yet, but have a huge upside to their game as they roll into their junior seasons.

So, without further adieu, let's take a look at QBs getting ready take their game to another level in 2025.

[player_tooltip player_id='1113127' first='Quintayvion' last='Pike'], 5'10, 150, KC Wyandotte, '27, ranked #124, he is coming off a promising start last fall as he stepped in and produced plenty of offense in the final four games of the year when he led the charge. He is a dual-threat southpaw who showed signs of good things to come, stepping up when he had his chance to complete 49 out of 88 passes for 909 yards, a 56% completion percentage, eight TD's to three picks and a lofty 108 passer rating. On the ground he was elusive and adept at extending plays, picking up 100+ yards rushing. He is an athletic signal caller who throws an accurate ball in the short to medium game and has good touch on the intermediate to longer throws. He is also a point guard in the off-season. This guy is positioned for a breakout year this fall.

[player_tooltip player_id='1366517' first='Zane' last='Haslett'], 6'0, 185, Hillsboro, '27, ranked #179, he is another promising southpaw gunslinger coming off a good sophomore season as a dangerous dual-threat quarterback. On the year he completed 71 out of 149 passes for 761 yards, a 48% completion percentage, four touchdown passes and six picks for a 55 passer rating. Running the ball he is elusive with good burst and picked up 664 yards on 103 carries for six-plus yards per carry average and eight more TD's. All totaled, he accounted for 1,425 yards and 12 touchdowns. He is a versatile athlete with the ball in his hands who can stretch the play with either his arm or his legs. He throws well on the move and off platform with good ball placement. He is ready for another standout season this fall.

[player_tooltip player_id='1530358' first='Isaiah' last='Main'], 5'11, 160, Baxter Springs, '27, ranked #186, he is coming off an excellent sophomore season establishing early on that he was more than ready for the varsity game. On the year he completed 107 passes out of 200 attempts for 1,671 yards, a 54% completion percentage, 15 TD's, 17 picks and a 91 passer rating. He also had 157 yards and three scores on the ground. He really showed his potential mid-season last year when he erupted for a huge game in a wild 48-44 win over Neodesha, when he completed 23 of 37 passes for 460 yards and five TD's. With a breakout season under his belt he should be well positioned to continue the impressive trajectory he is already on with a big year this fall.

[player_tooltip player_id='1530372' first='Drake' last='Blochlinger'], 5'10, 175, Concordia, '27, ranked #191, he is another dual-threat quarterback flying under the radar so far but has shown he is ready for the next step. Last fall he completed 46 out of 105 passes for a 44% completion percentage, and two touchdown passes to eight picks. On the ground he carried the ball 170 times for 515 yards and five touchdowns. His sophomore year highlight came against Chapman when he completed eight of 13 passes for 100 yards and a pair of touchdown passes. He also had 152 yards rushing and four more scores to give him a 250+ total yards and six TD's. There isn't much tape or info available but by all indications he appears ready to take off in 2025.

[player_tooltip player_id='1579589' first='Griffin' last='Hall'], 5'9, 170, Salina Central, '27, unranked (in the system but not yet ranked), and last in this report, but certainly not least, is a young-gun rising star who backed up an all-state quarterback last fall and didn't get as many reps as desired but when he got in the game he made a huge impression. On the year he completed 22 of 25 passes for 293 yards, a sizzling 88% completion percentage, four touchdown passes and zero interception to give him guady 153 passer rating, which is about as high as you can go. He was also a dual threat who can make things happen with his legs, picking up 168 yards on 15 carries for an 11.7 yard average and another TD. He appears to have an excellent all-around game and is certainly off to an encouraging start. Look for him to blow it up this fall.

In conclusion, these rising-star quarterbacks are going to be in the headlines for the next few years, so get them on your watchlist so you can follow their progress. And, as always, if you know of anyone flying under the radar give me a shout via DM on X. Keep grindin'...
