Continuing to feature the MVPs from the winter Prepredzone Minnesota Stock-up Showcase, my attention turns to [player_tooltip player_id='1581357' first='Evan' last='Jones'] from Rochester Century. The coaches selected Jones as the top offensive lineman at the Showcase. Here is what Jones had to say about his performance at the Showcase and his offseason to this point.

My observations of Jones on the day:

Jones showed solid technique all morning. During the best-on-best session, he perfectly rode his man to the outside for two consecutive reps. Then, Jones countered an inside move well. Earlier, during the main session, he looked good in the technique drills. Then, the junior countered an inside move to finish a block. He used good footwork again to defend an inside move.

What were you looking to get out of the day?

Jones: I was just trying to go out there, compete, do the best I could, and play to the best of my abilities. A few of my buddies were there. I was looking to have some fun and do what I know I am capable of.

Why do you think you were selected as one of the MVPs?

Jones: I thought my footwork was good in the best-on-best session. I feel like during the individual drills, I was good in all the drills with my feet and being quick out of my stance. I think I was explosive out of my stance.

What is the biggest thing you took from the coaching part of the Showcase?

Jones: I will be doing some of the drills they put us through, as well as some of the tips they gave for pass pro.

What have you been working on this offseason?

Jones: I have been working on a lot of diet stuff. I lift every morning, and I do drills after school every day. A lot of my off-season has been cleaning up my diet.

Where do you typically line up on the offensive line?

Jones: I lined up at left tackle last year, and I am pretty sure that is where I will be next year.

What else do you have going on this offseason athletically?

Jones: For most of the offseason, I will lift in the morning and then do offensive line-specific drills in the afternoon. In the spring, I am going out for track—I am going to throw. I used to play baseball, but I hurt my shoulder playing baseball. I thought track was something I could do. It is less intense on the shoulder.

What are your strengths as an offensive lineman?

Jones: My work ethic is something I am really proud of. If there is something I struggle with or need to get better at, I will work until I am better at it.
