No. 1 Archbishop Shaw (11-2) vs. No. 3 E.D. White (11-2)

A pair of proud southeast Louisiana programs who hang their hats on defense and the run game will square off for an opportunity to bring home their first state championship in decades. This year has long felt primed for Archbishop Shaw, with legendary coach Hank Tierney back on the West Bank, to secure its first title since 1987. But E.D. White has been as consistent as almost any team in the division in recent years, since longtime coach Kyle Lasseigne's return to the sideline, and is determined to write its own storybook ending with a first title since 1969.

Matchup to watch

Archbishop Shaw's offensive firepower starts with its senior backfield of quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1221203' first='Mason' last='Wilson'] and Michigan-committed running back [player_tooltip player_id='913900' first='Jasper' last='Parker']. But E.D. White prides itself on being physical and disciplined in the box with big junior linebacker [player_tooltip player_id='1555355' first='Charlie' last='Diedrich'] among the standouts in the box. The battles in the trenches loom large in this matchup, and the ability of Diedrich and company to quickly and effectively plug running lanes before Wilson or Parker can get rolling will be critical.
