A few weeks ago, on National Signing Day there were several football prospects who made it official.

By signing with a college or university, they at least knew they were set for a year.

For those who believe that signing with a school is four years, you are in for a huge surprise. Each scholarship is year-to-year, and in this day of the transfer portal, staying at one school is rare – to say the least.

As many signed recently or have offers to make their minds up later on, there are so many who have no idea what their futures will be as a student/athlete.

Because the process has gotten way out of hand, there are so many opportunities to at least get your foot in the door. Small college recruiting fairs are held throughout Florida where high school coaches have an opportunity to sell their athletes to programs that will provide financial assistance that if based on need.

While these recruiting fairs have been good throughout the years, there are other avenues – such as the Orange Bowl Showcase which is held in March at St. Thomas University in Miami Gardens at no charge to the athletes who not only sell themselves by video, but a combine is held so these college coaches can actually see the athleticism live and not just viewing a tape that could be as much as four to five months old.

Like we continue to do throughout the course of a year, Prep Redzone Florida shines a spotlight on all athletes. Today, it's five Class of 2025 seniors to consider:

Jerry Alcindor, OL, 6-3, 280, Belle Glade Glades Central. After a tremendous season for the Raiders, here is someone who enjoyed an outstanding season up front, providing protection for the passing game and paving the way for a solid ground attack. Someone who can help at the next level. Jerry also gets it done in the classroom – with a 3.2 GPA.

[player_tooltip player_id='737825' first='Jake' last='Balanovich'], QB, 6-1, 180, Weston Cypress Bay. After spending most of his high school career at Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas, this is someone who opened eyes this past season for the Lightning. Has a strong and accurate arm, but also can open his game up with the ability to run. He also opens his recruitment up wider with a 4.0 GPA in the classroom. He also beat the great Tom Brady in a recent QB challenge in Miami.

Jeran Jones, CB, 5-11, 172, Fort Meade. Playing for a state championship (Rural Invitational) team, this was not only a productive player on the field, as a cover corner and a run stopper, his leadership for this young team truly made an impact for the Miners. Like so many prospects, this student/athlete also had a 3.0 GPA in the classroom.

[player_tooltip player_id='1324059' first='Daniel' last='Richardson'], Athlete, 5-11, 165, Orange Park. Receiver, kick returner, defensive back. Here is someone who really made a major impact for this football program. Turned out to be a true competitor for a Raider team that was looking for prospects who lead by example for the younger players. Also led the team with an impressive 3.0 GPA in the classroom.

[player_tooltip player_id='831335' first='Jatavius' last='Ward'], DE/OLB, 6-3, 220, Frostproof. If you look back on the season, here is a prospect that made a huge difference for the Bulldogs during the playoff season. His ability to play as a rush end or outside linebacker continued to make him a talent to keep an eye on. Another leader that this program needed during the season with some younger players watching what he did.
