Scottsdale Christian Academy continued their dominant run over the 2A division, clinching their second consecutive state championship with a dramatic 28-27 victory over Pima High School. On offense, they battled for every inch, converting third-and-long situations and finding creative ways to break through a tough Pima defense. The defense, on the other hand, stepped up when it mattered most, delivering crucial stops that turned the tide in SCA's favor. From the starters to the role players, everyone on the field left their mark. Here, we take a closer look at the players whose performances defined their championship victory.

Offensive MVP:

In the 2A state championship, senior running back and linebacker [player_tooltip player_id='1145534' first='Caleb' last='Randall'] showcased exactly why he was selected as 2A Verde's Region Player of the Year. On offense, Randall was unstoppable, carrying the ball 24 times for an impressive 152 yards and two touchdowns. Each run seemed to wear down the Pima defense, and Randall's combination of power and vision kept SCA's offense moving. His ability to break through tackles and extend plays was on full display all game. What made Randall's performance even more remarkable was his contribution on the defensive side of the ball. Playing both running back and linebacker, he brought the same intensity to stopping Pima's offense. Balancing such a heavy workload showed just how much endurance he has to perform play after play. Randall's explosive plays on offense and his ability to carry the load while remaining a force on defense made him the undeniable MVP.

Defensive MVP:

As an outside linebacker, Ethan Wilt was a constant thorn in the side of Pima's offense. His ability to read the flow of plays and track down the ball carrier was key in their comeback win. Wilt has a natural nose for the football, consistently getting in on the action and making play after play. His relentless pursuit as Pima tried to get around the edge disrupted the opposing offense's rhythm and forced them into tough situations all game long. Wilt was a force on the stat sheet, recording a team-high 16 tackles, including three passes defensed, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery. Whether he was plugging running lanes or dropping into coverage to affect the passing game, Wilt's presence was felt on every down.

Trench Titan:

In a game decided by razor-thin margins, [player_tooltip player_id='1353915' first='Braydon' last='Tatko']'s dominance in the trenches provided Scottsdale Christian Academy with a significant edge. As an offensive tackle, Tatko's quick feet and powerful base made him nearly impossible for defenders to get around. Whether he was staying in front of pass rushers or opening running lanes, his technical skill and strength set the tone for SCA's offense. On defense, he was just as impressive. His upper body strength allowed him to move opposing linemen at will, clogging running lanes and clearing paths for his teammates to make plays. Tatko, one of many versatile players on this SCA team, was a real difference-maker as they claimed back-to-back state titles.

Clutch Performer:

When the game was on the line, linebacker Martin Perez delivered in ways that will be remembered for quite some time. Perez racked up 12 tackles, consistently shutting down Pima's offense with his ability to make critical stops on third and fourth downs. Going up against a big and powerful Pima rushing attack, Perez was an equalizer for SCA attacking running lanes before they fully opened. But his most defining moment came late in the game. After Pima scored a touchdown to take the lead with just over two minutes left, Perez blocked the ensuing extra-point attempt. That single play turned out to be the difference, as SCA held on to win by one point when the final whistle blew. His incredible effort on that play was the perfect depiction of his performance throughout the game — relentless, impactful, and clutch.

Jack of All Trades:

When it came to versatility, (and there was plenty of it on this SCA squad) Harrison Gurash stood out as the ultimate jack of all trades in the title game. On the Eagles' final drive, Gurash wasted no time showing his playmaking ability, taking a screen pass for 23 yards. Just a few plays later, SCA ran a perfectly executed 21-yard double pass where he ended up throwing the game-tying touchdown, taking the lead with the extra-point to follow. Gurash also made his mark on the ground, logging three rushes for 20 yards. It was clear the coaching staff wanted the ball in his hands, trusting his versatility and trying to create opportunities no matter where he lined up. Whether he was asked to run, pass, or catch, Gurash embraced every role and found ways to make an impact.

Other Standouts:

[player_tooltip player_id='1603417' first='London' last='Olsen'] - Sophomore - LB

Olsen was a steady presence on defense, recording eight tackles and one sack. His ability to pressure the quarterback and disrupt plays in the backfield added another layer to SCA's defensive dominance, making it difficult for Pima to sustain momentum.

Lawson Lavallee - Senior - WR/DB

Lavallee made his presence felt on both sides of the ball. Offensively, he hauled in two receptions for 61 yards and a touchdown. Defensively, Lavallee was just as impactful, tallying 10 tackles and breaking up a critical pass.

[player_tooltip player_id='1682156' first='Isaiah' last='Steffen'] - Junior - WR

Steffen delivered one of the game's most memorable moments with an incredible touchdown catch through double coverage, a play that really shifted the momentum toward SCA. On special teams, he played a crucial role in the blocked PAT, positioning himself perfectly alongside Perez to ensure the ball never made it through the uprights.
