What We Saw: South Florence 49, Hartsville 21

HARTSVILLE | Taking a 13-0 lead without your opponent running a play on offense is good right? That is exactly how South Florence got the night started in what turned into a 49-21 routing of Hartsville in the teams' second match-up this season.   Hartsville was victorious in the first meeting of the season, winning 54-35. South Florence definitely didn't forget about that. The Bruins laid it on early and often with a heavy ground attack and timely pass plays that seemed to catch the Hartsville defense completely off guard.   South Florence quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1166986' first='Messiah' last='Jackson'] attempted just eight passes, completing five and four of the five being touchdowns.   Three of those touchdowns went to [player_tooltip player_id='1574090' first='Lennix' last='Valarie'] (pictured), who made three outstanding catches on all three touchdown receptions.   "We didn't forget what happened the first time we played them," Valarie said. "We didn't like the way it felt when they got us the first time, so it felt good to return the favor this time around." He hauled in one catch for 44 yards and a touchdown. He added 110 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown as well.   [player_tooltip player_id='272722' first='Zion' last='Gilbert'] RB | Gilbert ran the ball straight downhill for the entirety of the game and was nearly impossible to tackle with just one man. He had 18 carries for 169 yards. He was unable to get into the endzone, but he certainly had an impact on the game. Gordon was also in on quite a few tackles.   HARTSVILLE STANDOUTS   [player_tooltip player_id='1578854' first='EJ' last='Smith'] QB | Smith finished with 115 passing yards and two touchdowns.   [player_tooltip player_id='1012592' first='Hakeem' last='Watters'] RB | Watters had five carries for 62 yards and a touchdown.   [player_tooltip player_id='1592487' first='Tristian' last='Spann'] WR | Spann was productive at the receiver position. He had two catches for 57 yards and two touchdowns.
