RICHBURG | Lewisville used a stifling defense and a balanced attack on offense to rout Lamar, 37-7 to secure the region II-1A title on Friday night.

“Nobody gave us a chance all year. And these guys (have) bought in since March. It is what it is right now. We've got a three-peat region championship and they deserve it,” Lewisville head coach Trent Usher said.

Both offenses struggled in the early going as both teams traded turnovers on their opening possession — Ty'Mon Hughes recovered a fumble due to a high snap from Lamar. [player_tooltip player_id='1253894' first='Zoom' last='Jackson'] picked off [player_tooltip player_id='1249747' first='Zach' last='Rogers'] a few plays later.

Rogers would find his rhythm, connecting with Ri'Quaris Harris and [player_tooltip player_id='1165159' first='Jordan' last='Strong'] (pictured above) on a drive that ended with a 6-yard run from the Anderson University commit to put Lewisville 7-0 with 4:34 to play in the opening quarter.

“Our o-line blocked great tonight, my goodness. We bounced back and we got on a roll. Ri'Quaris had a great game. He was my bailout the whole game and just gave me more time in the pocket,” Rogers said.

Jacorreun Howze made a big catch down the right sideline to set up the Lions' second score of the night, before capping off the drive with a 6-yard run as Lewisville extended their lead to 14-0 with 6:59 left before the half.

Lewisville's defense got after [player_tooltip player_id='1165108' first='Zori' last='Pierce'] throughout the evening as Hughes nearly had a pick six off a tip a few series later. The Lions' defense held the Silver Foxes to under 100 yards of total offense on the night.

Lamar would catch their only break of the night, courtesy of a special teams blunder by the Lions as the ball was muffed and recovered by Kamill McCoy for a touchdown, cutting into the lead at 14-7 with 4:59 to play before the half.

Rogers did a nice job in the first half of extending plays with his feet, and that was evident on their last drive before the half. Marcel Fee knocked through a 32-yard field goal as the Lions took a 17-7 lead to the halftime locker room.

The second half was all Lewisville as Rogers connected with Ri'Quaris Harris for a 72-yard touchdown reception. It was a beautiful deep ball where he beat one-on-one coverage on 2nd and 28 to take a 24-7 with 9:43 to play in the third quarter.

Strong added two scores of 21 and 4 yards to close the scoring on the night. He ran with a level of aggressiveness that was fun to watch with good pad level.

“(Strong) has really opened up our run game. He's such an electrifying athlete. You give him the ball and he'll break four tackles and score,” Rogers said of Strong

Hughes added an interception with 2:18 to play in the contest.
