ROEBUCK | Boiling Springs' offense did plenty, but the defense made the difference.

The Bulldogs forced three turnovers - two of which led directly to points. They limited the Cavaliers to just 153 yards of total offense, and got a two touchdown night from the duo of [player_tooltip player_id='1012707' first='Lincoln' last='Huskey'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1360379' first='Kyle' last='Patterson'] to take a dominant win over Region II-5A rival Dorman in the first round of the Class 5A Division I playoffs.

"They (Dorman) are really good on defense," Boiling Springs coach Matt Reel said. "You watch them against Gaffney, against Byrnes, against the perennial powers, you can see that. They've got players. They're coached really well. I thought our kids just kept striking the rock. Our kids were relentless. Our attitude and our belief and what we're trying to build our program around structurally, they showed out tonight. That's what we do and how we do things."

Ry'Shaun Morgan came up huge for the Bulldogs with just 21 seconds to play in the first half. With Dorman driving in Boiling Springs territory, Morgan stepped in front of a pass and rumbled 70 yards for a score that increased Boiling Springs' lead to 15-0.

"My man blocked, so I just kind of dropped and read the play and tried to play robber," Morgan said. "I think we played great on defense. We prepped for it all week, and we did our job. It feels great, because it's my senior year and I wasn't ready to go out yet."

Defense carried the night early for both teams. At the half, Boiling Springs had 50 yards of total offense, with more than half of that on one play. That was a big one, though, as Huskey found Patterson for a 27-yard touchdown that staked the Bulldogs to a 6-0 lead with five minutes to play in the first half. Otherwise, the Bulldogs were harassed all over the field. Dorman's [player_tooltip player_id='402497' first='Kentavion' last='Anderson'] had seven first-half tackles, with [player_tooltip player_id='1592369' first='Jordan' last='Darby'] adding five. Each had a sack and two tackles for loss as the Cavaliers recorded nine negative-yardage plays in the first half. Boiling Springs forced seven, and got a safety on an errant snap in the end zone that made the lead 8-0 in the second quarter. They also got another key interception at the end of the first half, as [player_tooltip player_id='1592404' first='Cohen' last='Chalk'] picked off a pass and returned it to the Dorman 19 with six seconds left. The Bulldogs didn't waste time running a play, turning to Michael Dueck, who booted a 35-yard field goal for an 18-0 halftime advantage.

Boiling Springs was able to get things rolling a bit offensively in the second half. Huskey was a perfect 6-for-6 for 86 yards in the third quarter, including back-to-back 29-yard completions. The first went to [player_tooltip player_id='1592400' first='Grayson' last='Crowe'] to flip the field, and the second went to Patterson at the 1-yard line to set up a touchdown from [player_tooltip player_id='1254206' first='Javen' last='Chhim'] to make it 25-0.

Huskey said the first touchdown for the Bulldogs was huge.

"It was just a game changing play for us, I feel like," he said. "It gave us all the juice we needed and put us where we needed to be. On the second one (the completion to the 1), we were rolling out and honestly I probably should've checked down. But I trusted my guys up front, went around, and saw Kyle. I wanted to give him a chance."

Huskey tacked on a 12-yarder to Patterson for the Bulldogs' final score, and finished the night with 207 passing yards. Crowe had six catches for 94 yards, while Patterson pulled in four for 72 yards and the two scores. Campbell Johnson and [player_tooltip player_id='1592395' first='TJ' last='Collins'] led the stellar defensive effort, as each had seven tackles, a sack, and half a tackle for loss.

The Bulldogs will travel to take on No. 1 seed Dutch Fork in the second round.

"Just getting to the next week is a big deal," Reel said. "We knew who we had next week, but when you play Dorman you can't look at next week. We've been focused on trying to win this football game and doing everything we had to do to get that done. I'm just pleased for these guys and excited for them."
