Week 9 Defensive Standouts

After week nine in Arkansas, we evaluate several standout prospects based on their performances from Friday night on the defensive side of the ball. Their film was impressive, as they excelled in every phase of the game. Here are five athletes to watch as they head into the final week of the regular season.    [player_tooltip player_id='1301890' first='William' last='Gaines'] performed impressively on Friday night, racking in 10 tackles and 1.5 TFLs. He displayed a sideline-to-sideline motor with solid angles. Gaines also showcased his solid read and react ability with a quick first step, allowing him to attack downhill with a solid burst. He stays square at the point of attack. He has a good feel for zone coverage with solid lateral agility and COD. On Friday night, he was on display defensively with 3 interceptions (2 Pick Six's) and multiple tackles. Overall, he displays good read and react ability, allowing him to diagnose plays, quickly break on the ball, and arrive at the catch point quickly due to a good change of direction, pursuit, and lateral agility, positioning himself to force PBUs or INTs. Brasfield's ability to stay inside the hip pocket of the receiver on breaks is impressive due to good hip fluidity. He's consistent with his sideline-to-sideline motor. Sellers know how to attack downhill with good physicality at the POA, good angles, and foot quickness to pursue the ball carrier. He can stay square, displays good hand placement to work off of blocks, and make a stop at the LOS or in the backfield. Good read and react ability with a solid feel in zone coverage. His ability to change direction quickly and effectively allows him to arrive at the catch point to force a PBU or make a tackle in space. He's a true Mike linebacker that you want at the next level. He showcases good read and react ability, attacking downhill quickly vs. the run while staying square with good pad level, angles, and hand placement to shed blocks and make a play all over the field. Solid read and react ability, not allowing much room for separation due to solid COD, balance, and burst. His athleticism and awareness put him in a position to arrive at the catch point to force PBUs or INTs.
