Louisiana's high school football playoffs kick off this weekend.

The LHSAA's third postseason under a tweaked format features eight brackets — four "nonselect" and four "select" — full of impressive teams and prospects and intriguing matchups and storylines.

We'll give a quick preview of each, including the top five seeds, two lower seeds to watch for a potential run, up to eight top-ranked prospects, up to five sleeper prospects, an intriguing first-round matchup, a most intriguing potential second-round matchup and an overarching storyline entering the tournament.

This season is also the first in a new two-year classification cycle, so a few notable programs have changed divisions, which we'll note as well.

Check out the Division-IV Non-Select capsule below.

Top 5 seeds: No. 1 Haynesville, No. 2 South Plaquemines, No. 3 DeQuincy, No. 4 Jeanerette, No. 5 North Iberville

Lower seeds to watch: No. 9 Welsh, No. 12 General Trass, No. 14 White Castle, No. 15 Homer, No. 18 East Feliciana, No. 19 Franklin

2023 champion: Oak Grove (now in Division-III)

2023 runner-up: Haynesville

Top prospects: 2026 North Iberville OL/DL [player_tooltip player_id='960002' first='Jordell' last='Baise'], 2027 Jeanerette ATH [player_tooltip player_id='1610130' first='Devine' last='Duhon'], 2026 Ferriday WR [player_tooltip player_id='457340' first='Desmen' last='Jefferson'], 2025 Jeanerette DB [player_tooltip player_id='915061' first='Dominick' last='Lewis'], 2027 East Feliciana ATH [player_tooltip player_id='1250280' first='Ryan' last='Moore Jr.'], 2027 Jeanerette WR/ATH [player_tooltip player_id='1137410' first='Morris' last='Walters'], 2026 Haynesville QB/ATH [player_tooltip player_id='1237635' first='Isaiah' last='Washington'], 2025 Homer LB [player_tooltip player_id='710282' first='Gregory' last='Williams'], 2025 Haynesville LB [player_tooltip player_id='914221' first='Keizavion' last='Woods']

Sleeper prospects: 2025 White Castle WR/ATH [player_tooltip player_id='912278' first='Shadrack' last='Allen'], 2025 North Iberville WR Corey Domino Jr., 2025 West St. John DB Joradae Grows, 2025 Centerville WR Tae'Shawn Jones, 2026 Logansport LB/ATH [player_tooltip player_id='1601848' first='Hunter' last='Martin'], 2025 South Plaquemines RB/ATH Jyheim Williams

Intriguing first-round matchup: No. 14 White Castle vs. No. 19 Franklin

Most intriguing possible second-round matchup: No. 5 North Iberville vs. No. 12 General Trans

Overall Storyline: Haynesville, which returned lots of last year's runner-up roster, has felt like the team to beat in Division-IV Non-Select going back to the offseason reclassification process which saw reigning champion and perennial power Oak Grove move up to Division-III. But the bracket awaiting top-seeded Golden Tornado will feature some capable challengers, including second-seeded South Plaquemines seeking its first Superdome trip since 2009, third-seeded DeQuincy enjoying a huge turnaround from 2-8 to 9-1, a fourth-seeded Jeanerette as talented as anyone in the bracket, a resurrected North Iberville program enjoying a strong first varsity season back in action and the list goes on.
